Ingredients- 4 slices of bread (preferably not too thin)
- 2 tablespoons Nutella
- 4 tablespoons cream cheese (e.g., Philadelphia)
- 2 large eggs
- 100ml milk
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
- 20g butter
- 100ml heavy cream
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Start by trimming the crusts off the bread slices. Then, use a rolling pin or a glass to flatten each slice of bread until it’s thin and pliable. This will make rolling them easier and create a neater shape.
Step 2
Spread the fillings onto the flattened bread slices. On one-third of the bread, spread 1 tablespoon of Nutella. On the remaining two-thirds, spread 2 tablespoons of cream cheese. You can adjust the ratio to your preference.
Step 3
Carefully roll up each bread slice, starting from the side with the fillings. Roll them tightly but gently to prevent the filling from squeezing out. Pinch the end of the roll to help seal it.
Step 4
In a shallow bowl or dish, whisk together the 2 large eggs and 100ml of milk until well combined and slightly frothy. This mixture will be used to soak the bread rolls.
Step 5
Dip each rolled bread slice into the egg and milk mixture, ensuring it’s fully coated. Let them soak for about 30 seconds to a minute on each side, or until the bread is nicely saturated but not falling apart. The goal is for the bread to absorb the custard.
Step 6
Melt the 20g of butter in a non-stick skillet over medium heat. Once the butter is melted and slightly shimmering, carefully place the soaked bread rolls into the skillet. Cook for 2-3 minutes per side, until golden brown and crispy. Adjust the heat as needed to prevent burning.
Step 7
While the rolls are cooking, combine the 2 tablespoons of granulated sugar and 1 tablespoon of ground cinnamon in a small plate or shallow bowl. Once the French toast rolls are nicely browned on all sides, immediately roll them in the cinnamon-sugar mixture while they are still warm, ensuring an even coating.
Step 8
For an extra touch of indulgence, whip the 100ml of heavy cream until it forms soft peaks. This will serve as a delicious dipping sauce. Serve the warm, cinnamon-sugar coated French toast rolls with the whipped cream. Enjoy your delightful creation!
