Main Ingredients
  • 200g Hot dog mix powder
  • 100g Breadcrumbs
  • 3 Sausages (cocktail or frankfurter style)
  • 2 Fresh eggs
  • 2 Medium-sized carrots
  • 150ml Milk
  • 4 Slices of cheddar cheese

Seasoning & Frying
  • 400ml Cooking oil (for frying)
  • A pinch of salt
  • A pinch of sugar
  • Ketchup
  • Mustard

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

Begin by thoroughly washing the carrots. Peel them and then grate about half of the carrots finely using a grater or food processor. Dice the remaining half into small, bite-sized cubes (about 0.5 cm). The puréed carrot will be incorporated into the batter, while the diced pieces will add a nice texture to the hot dog.

Step 2

Carefully insert a wooden skewer or stick into each sausage. Next, wrap a slice of cheddar cheese around the sausage, pressing it gently to adhere. This cheesy layer will melt and add a wonderful flavor when fried.

Step 3

In a mixing bowl, combine the hot dog mix powder (200g), the two fresh eggs, milk (150ml), the puréed carrot, and a pinch of salt. Whisk everything together until you have a smooth, lump-free batter. Adjust the consistency with a little more milk or powder if needed; it should be thick enough to coat the sausage but not too stiff.

Step 4

Dip the cheese-wrapped sausage into the prepared carrot batter, ensuring it’s evenly coated. Then, roll the battered sausage in the breadcrumbs, pressing gently to create a thick, even coating. This breadcrumb layer is key to achieving a wonderfully crispy exterior.

Step 5

Pour the cooking oil (400ml) into a deep pan or pot and heat it over medium heat. To test if the oil is hot enough, drop a small amount of batter into it; it should sizzle immediately. Carefully place the breaded hot dogs into the hot oil, being careful not to overcrowd the pan. Fry for about 3-4 minutes per side, or until golden brown and crispy.

Step 6

Once perfectly fried, remove the hot dogs from the oil and place them on paper towels or a wire rack to drain any excess oil. This step ensures they remain delightfully crispy. Serve hot dogs with your favorite toppings like ketchup, mustard, and a sprinkle of sugar. You can also serve the diced carrots on the side!
