  • Difficulty : Beginner

Ingredients

  • 300g fresh soybean sprouts
  • 140g imitation crab sticks (kani), shredded
  • A small amount of green onion, finely chopped
  • 1/2 tsp salt, or to taste
  • 1 Tbsp perilla oil (deulgireum)
  • 1 Tbsp toasted sesame seeds

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, thoroughly wash the soybean sprouts under running water. Place the washed sprouts in a pot and add just enough water to lightly cover them. Cover the pot with a lid and bring to a boil over high heat. Once you see foam forming on the surface, continue to cook for another 2 minutes, then turn off the heat and let it steam for about 1 minute. Overcooking will make the sprouts mushy, so timing is key! After steaming, immediately drain the sprouts and rinse them under cold running water to cool them down. Finally, firmly squeeze out all excess water from the sprouts using your hands.

Step 2

Gently unravel the imitation crab sticks with your hands and shred them into bite-sized pieces. Shredding them too finely might diminish the texture, so aim for a moderate size. Finely chop the green onion.

Step 2

Step 3

In a large bowl, combine the drained bean sprouts. Add the seasoning ingredients: salt, perilla oil, and toasted sesame seeds. Now, gently mix everything together with your hands, tossing the sprouts and seasonings until well combined. The key is to gently mix to ensure the flavors coat the sprouts evenly. Lastly, add the shredded crab sticks and chopped green onion, and toss lightly to combine. Your delicious Bean Sprout and Crab Stick Salad is ready!
