Crispy & Sweet Sweet Potato Chips (Air Fryer Recipe)
Super Easy Air Fryer Sweet Potato Chips
You can easily make crispy sweet potato chips at home, just like the ones at your favorite bar! They’re a delicious homemade snack that rivals store-bought chips. I recently tried these at a bar I frequent and they were so good, I had to try making them myself! It’s incredibly simple, so anyone can follow along easily!
Ingredients- 5 medium sweet potatoes
- Cooking oil or olive oil (generous amount)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Wash the sweet potatoes thoroughly. You can peel them or leave the skin on if you prefer. Using a mandoline slicer, cut the sweet potatoes into very thin matchsticks, about 0.1cm thick. (If using a decorative mandoline, set it to the thinnest setting. The thinner they are, the crispier they’ll become.)
Step 2
Line the air fryer basket with parchment paper. Spread the julienned sweet potatoes in a single layer, ensuring they don’t overlap too much. (Overcrowding can lead to uneven cooking, so it’s recommended to cook in batches if you have a large amount.) Drizzle a generous amount of oil evenly over the sweet potatoes. This step is crucial for achieving a crispy texture. You can also gently toss them with your hands to coat.
Step 3
Set the air fryer to 180°C (350°F) and start with a cooking time of 30 minutes. Halfway through cooking (around the 15-minute mark), open the basket and flip the sweet potato chips. This ensures they cook evenly on both sides and become crispier. The cooking time may vary depending on the quantity and thickness of your sweet potatoes, so check them periodically and adjust as needed. (If you have a smaller batch or cut them thinly, they might be done in as little as 10-15 minutes.)
Step 4
Once the sweet potato chips are golden brown and crispy, remove them from the air fryer and enjoy! They’re delicious warm, but they also stay wonderfully crisp once cooled. The bar I used to go to would sprinkle cheese powder on top, which makes them even more amazing with a sweet and savory contrast! (If you have cheese powder, definitely try adding it!)
