Main Ingredients- 5 slices of bread (thickness can be adjusted to your preference)
- 2 Tbsp Cookie & Milk Spread (or butter)
- 2 Tbsp Maple Syrup (or honey)
- 2 Tbsp Sweetened Condensed Milk
- 2 Tbsp Butter (if using instead of spread)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
In a small bowl, place 2 tablespoons of Cookie & Milk Spread. If you don’t have this spread, you can substitute with 2 tablespoons of butter that has been softened at room temperature.
Step 2
Microwave the spread (or butter) for about 30 seconds until it’s nicely melted and smooth. Be careful not to overheat it; it just needs to be melted.
Step 3
Add 2 tablespoons of sweetened condensed milk and 2 tablespoons of maple syrup to the melted spread (or butter). Prepare to mix these ingredients together.
Step 4
Return the bowl to the microwave for another 10 seconds or so. This brief heating helps all the liquid ingredients combine thoroughly, creating a delicious sweet sauce base.
Step 5
Using a brush, evenly spread this sweet sauce all over the slices of bread. Ensure every part of the bread is coated for maximum flavor and crispiness when baked.
Step 6
Cut the sauced bread into bite-sized pieces. Cutting them into 4 or 5 pieces per slice makes them easy to arrange and bake in an air fryer or oven.
Step 7
Arrange the cut bread pieces in a single layer in your air fryer basket, making sure they don’t overlap. If you have too many pieces, it’s best to bake them in batches.
Step 8
Bake in a preheated air fryer at 200°C (390°F) for approximately 6 minutes. Keep an eye on the bread’s color and adjust the time as needed. Once baked, let them cool completely to achieve the perfect crispy texture. Enjoy your homemade rusks!
