An Innovative ‘Crunchy’ Bean Sprout Salad Recipe, Made Without Blanching
Ever wondered if you could make bean sprout salad even crunchier? This recipe was born from that very question. While created by ‘Ttorongi’, it boasts a surprisingly superior crisp texture that’s beyond imagination…★ It’s a unique way to enjoy the freshness and crunch of bean sprouts like never before!
Ingredients- 1 bag Bean Sprouts (approx. 380g)
- 1/2 Tbsp Minced Garlic (approx. 10g)
- 1 Tbsp Sesame Oil
- 1/2 Tbsp Salt
- A pinch of Black Pepper
- A pinch of Toasted Sesame Seeds
- A little Green Onion (finely chopped)
- 2 Tbsp Anchovy Fish Sauce (or Soy Sauce)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Begin by thoroughly washing the fresh bean sprouts under running water multiple times. It’s important to rinse them well, remove any hulls or debris, and drain them completely.
Step 2
Now, place the washed bean sprouts into a pot. Crucially, do NOT add any water! We’ll be cooking them using only their natural moisture. Spread the bean sprouts evenly across the bottom of the pot.
Step 3
Pour the 2 Tbsp of anchovy fish sauce (or soy sauce) evenly over the bean sprouts. Let it sit for a moment to allow the sauce to begin coating the sprouts, then securely close the lid of the pot. This steaming method without added water is one of the secrets to keeping the sprouts wonderfully crisp.
Step 4
Once you notice condensation forming like little beads on the inside of the pot lid, immediately reduce the heat to the lowest setting (simmer). Keep the lid closed and let the bean sprouts cook gently for about 7 to 8 minutes. During this stage, the sprouts will absorb moisture and retain their satisfying crunch.
Step 5
When the bean sprouts are cooked to your liking, open the lid. First, add the minced garlic and toasted sesame seeds. Toss them gently with the warm bean sprouts. This helps infuse the savory aroma of garlic and the nutty flavor of sesame seeds into the sprouts.
Step 6
After about 2 minutes, add the salt, black pepper, sesame oil, and the finely chopped green onions. Now it’s time to season and mix everything together thoroughly. Gently toss the ingredients until well combined.
Step 7
Finally, taste the seasoned bean sprouts. If it’s not salty enough, add a tiny bit more salt to adjust the flavor. It’s always better to start with less seasoning and add more as needed. Enjoy your delicious and crunchy bean sprout salad!
Step 8
Your incredibly crispy and protein-packed seasoned bean sprouts are ready! They make a fantastic side dish for any meal.
