How to Roast Peanuts at Home: The Ultimate Guide
We always keep roasted peanuts on hand because everyone in the family loves them! This led us to buy raw peanuts in bulk for better value, and eventually, we started roasting them ourselves at home. While roasting peanuts takes a bit of time, the joy of seeing our family enjoy them makes it a frequent occurrence. This time, I’ve captured the entire process with photos to share my foolproof method. Let’s learn how to roast peanuts at home!
Ingredients- About 3-4 handfuls of raw peanuts
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Before you begin roasting, preheat your pan. Place it over high heat for about 2-3 minutes. If your raw peanuts have been stored in the refrigerator or freezer, it’s best to take them out and let them sit at room temperature for 30 minutes to an hour to remove any chill.
Step 2
Once the pan is hot, add the room-temperature raw peanuts. Reduce the heat to medium. Now, begin roasting the peanuts over medium heat.
Step 3
As you continue to roast over medium heat, you’ll start to hear a ‘pop’ or ‘crackling’ sound as the peanuts heat up. This usually happens after about 4-5 minutes of roasting. When you hear these popping sounds become less frequent, reduce the heat to low. Continue roasting gently over low heat.
Step 4
Roasting over low heat for about 20-25 minutes will deepen their color and release a wonderfully nutty aroma. You can roast them a little longer if you prefer a more intense nutty flavor; taste them periodically to achieve your desired level of deliciousness.
Step 5
Once roasted to perfection, immediately transfer the peanuts from the pan onto a wide tray or plate to cool completely. You might hear more ‘popping’ sounds as they cool, which is perfectly normal. Enjoy the crispy texture and rich, savory flavor once they are fully cooled.
