Ingredients- 1 pack Instant Ramen
- A little dried shiitake mushroom (sliced)
- A little green onion (sliced)
- 1 handful Crispy Rice Crust (Nurungji)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, prepare all your ingredients. The ramen, green onion, and crispy rice crust are essential. If you have dried shiitake mushrooms, feel free to add them, but it’s okay to omit them if you don’t have any. Any type of mushroom will work wonderfully in this dish.
Step 2
I chose to use brown rice crispy rice crust for its deep, nutty flavor. Its chewy texture adds a fantastic dimension to the ramen, making it even more enjoyable.
Step 3
Bring water to a boil in a pot. Once boiling, add the ramen noodles, the soup base (powdered seasoning), and the sliced mushrooms. Cook according to the package instructions for the ramen.
Step 4
Now it’s time to add the crispy rice crust. It’s crucial to add the nurungji only towards the very end of the cooking time. If you boil it for too long, it will become soft and lose its delightful texture and flavor. The goal is to lightly cook it, similar to how rice is cooked in nurungji-tang (a Korean soup with rice crust), so it retains some of its structure. As you eat the ramen, the nurungji will naturally soften slightly.
Step 5
Finally, add the nurungji and the chopped green onions to the pot. Let it simmer for about 30 to 50 seconds, just enough to meld the flavors and slightly soften the rice crust. Keep the heat on medium-low.
Step 6
Your delicious Nurungji Ramen is ready! The comforting, nutty flavor of the crispy rice crust blends beautifully with the ramen broth, creating a truly satisfying and hearty meal. It’s an unbeatable combination!
Step 7
While many people enjoy adding rice to their ramen, we highly recommend trying this version with nurungji instead. It offers a completely different, yet equally delightful, experience that will surely capture your taste buds. Give it a try – you won’t regret it!
