Crispy Outside, Creamy Inside! Super Simple Egg Katsu Recipe
Easy for Solo Living! Popular Egg Katsu Recipe
I was inspired to make Egg Katsu after watching a special episode about eggs on the popular show ‘Delicious Guys’! It’s a dish that’s incredibly delicious and looks fun to make. This recipe transforms eggs into a delightful treat with a crispy exterior and a wonderfully creamy yolk inside. You don’t need fancy ingredients; just eggs and breadcrumbs from your fridge are enough for anyone to easily create this. Enjoy it as a simple yet impressive meal or a special snack!
Main Ingredients
- 2 Eggs
- 2 bowls of Panko breadcrumbs
For Serving & Sauce (Optional)
- 1 Cucumber
- Ketchup (to taste)
- Mayonnaise (to taste)
- 1 Cucumber
- Ketchup (to taste)
- Mayonnaise (to taste)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, wash the cucumber and slice it thinly. These will be used to line the plate, so aim for thin, even slices for a nice presentation.
Step 2
Prepare a shallow dish or tray and pour a generous amount of panko breadcrumbs into it. Create a slight indentation in the center of the breadcrumbs to make a space for the egg.
Step 3
Carefully crack the eggs into the indentation made in the breadcrumbs. Be careful not to break the yolks. Then, cover the eggs with more panko breadcrumbs, ensuring the entire egg is coated. Gently press the breadcrumbs onto the egg to help them adhere. Carefully lift the egg to maintain its shape.
Step 4
Now it’s time to fry the breadcrumb-coated eggs. In a deep frying pan, add enough cooking oil and preheat it over medium-low heat. Gently place the egg katsu into the hot oil. Fry until it turns a golden brown color on both sides. It’s helpful to gently roll the egg katsu in the oil to ensure even cooking. (TIP: Use plenty of oil so the egg is fully submerged. This helps maintain its shape and achieve a crispier texture!)
Step 5
Arrange the thinly sliced cucumber at the bottom of your serving plate. Place the perfectly fried egg katsu on top. Drizzle with your favorite sauces like ketchup or mayonnaise to your liking. Your delicious Egg Katsu is complete! It tastes best served warm.
