This Tortilla Nut Hotteok is incredibly easy to make, requiring minimal ingredients often found right in your pantry. It boasts a wonderfully crispy exterior and a sweet, nutty, cheesy interior, making it perfect for kids and adults alike. Let’s dive into this quick and delicious recipe!
Ingredients- 1 Tortilla
- Generous amount of your favorite nuts (pecans, sunflower seeds, macadamia nuts, etc.)
- Plenty of honey, maple syrup, or condensed milk
- A little bit of cheese (cheddar, mozzarella, Edam, etc.)
- A pinch of cinnamon powder (optional)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, let’s prepare the nutty filling. I’m using a mix of pecans, sunflower seeds, and macadamia nuts. If you’re using larger nuts like pecans or macadamias, chop them into smaller, bite-sized pieces. Then, heat a dry pan over medium heat. Add the chopped nuts and sunflower seeds and toast them lightly until fragrant, being careful not to burn them. Once toasted, set them aside to cool slightly.
Step 2
Now, it’s time to cook the tortilla. Place the tortilla in a pan over medium-low heat. Using a spoon or spatula, spread a generous amount of honey, maple syrup, or condensed milk evenly over one side of the tortilla. This sweet coating will add a wonderful flavor to our hotteok.
Step 3
On the side coated with syrup, evenly sprinkle the toasted nuts. Be generous with the nuts to ensure a satisfying crunch and rich nutty flavor in every bite.
Step 4
Next, sprinkle a little bit of cheese over the nuts. You can adjust the amount of cheese or choose your favorite type. I’m using Edam cheese for its pleasant nuttiness, but melty mozzarella or sharp cheddar would also be delicious! For an extra layer of flavor, you can lightly dust with cinnamon powder now (optional).
Step 5
Fold the tortilla in half to create a half-moon shape. Cook over low heat, allowing the cheese to melt gently and the tortilla to become golden brown and crispy. Covering the pan for a minute can help the cheese melt more evenly. Once one side is nicely browned and the cheese is starting to melt, carefully flip the tortilla and cook the other side until it’s also golden and crisp. Your delicious Tortilla Nut Hotteok, with its crispy exterior and warm, gooey, nutty interior, is ready to be enjoyed!
