Key Ingredients- 1 packet ramen (your favorite brand)
- 200g Napa cabbage (about 1/4 of a small head, for that signature crunch!)
- 1 Tbsp minced garlic (for a depth of flavor)
- 550ml water (refer to ramen package for exact amount)
- 1 Tbsp red pepper flakes (for a touch of heat)
- 2 Tbsp sesame oil (for nutty aroma and richness)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, gather and prepare all your ingredients. Choose your favorite brand of ramen. Wash the Napa cabbage thoroughly under running water and then chop it into bite-sized pieces, about 2-3cm wide. Avoid chopping too finely, as this can affect the texture.
Step 2
Place a pot over medium heat and add 2 tablespoons of sesame oil. Allow the fragrant sesame oil to warm up, which will enhance the flavors of the other ingredients.
Step 3
Once the oil is lightly heated, add 1 tablespoon of minced garlic and sauté for about 15 seconds, until fragrant. Be careful not to burn the garlic; stir gently and move to the next step once the aroma is released.
Step 4
Add all the chopped Napa cabbage to the pot and stir-fry for about 1 minute over medium heat. The goal is to slightly wilt the cabbage while retaining its crispness. Overcooking will release too much water.
Step 5
Once the cabbage has slightly softened, stir in 1 tablespoon of red pepper flakes and sauté for another 30 seconds. Toasting the chili flakes like this reduces any raw taste and deepens the spicy flavor.
Step 6
Pour 550ml of water into the pot with the sautéed ingredients. You can adjust the water amount slightly based on the ramen package instructions or your preference. Bring the mixture to a boil over high heat.
Step 7
When the water reaches a rolling boil, add the ramen noodles. Gently separate the noodles to prevent them from sticking together.
Step 8
Add the soup base and dried vegetable packet(s) that came with the ramen. Cover the pot and let it simmer for approximately 3 minutes and 30 seconds, or according to the ramen package’s cooking time. Once the noodles are cooked to your liking, turn off the heat and serve immediately. Feel free to add an egg or green onions for extra flavor!
