Crispy & Juicy Chicken Thigh Steak with Savory Sauce
Delicious Chicken Thigh Steak Recipe – Perfect for Any Occasion!
I made this chicken thigh steak recipe as a special dish for the kids during their school break. It’s perfect not only as a side dish for rice but also for entertaining guests or as a delicious appetizer! The marinade for this steak would also be fantastic for pork ribs. My kids absolutely loved it and gave it two thumbs up! Enjoy this incredibly tender and flavorful steak at home.
Main Ingredients- 800g boneless chicken thigh
- Assorted vegetables for serving (e.g., broccoli, bell peppers, mushrooms)
- 3 Tbsp butter
- Pinch of salt
- Pinch of black pepper
Special Steak Sauce- 2 Tbsp soy sauce
- 2 Tbsp cooking wine (mirin or sake)
- 2 Tbsp minced garlic
- 2 Tbsp sugar
- 2 Tbsp teriyaki sauce
- 1 Tbsp oyster sauce
- 2 Tbsp ketchup
- 1 Tbsp sesame oil
- 2 Tbsp soy sauce
- 2 Tbsp cooking wine (mirin or sake)
- 2 Tbsp minced garlic
- 2 Tbsp sugar
- 2 Tbsp teriyaki sauce
- 1 Tbsp oyster sauce
- 2 Tbsp ketchup
- 1 Tbsp sesame oil
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, rinse the boneless chicken thighs under cold running water. Pat them dry thoroughly with paper towels. Season lightly with salt and pepper. You can also add about 1 Tbsp of cooking wine to help eliminate any gamey odors. (Tip: Soaking the chicken in milk for a while can make it even more tender, but this recipe yields delicious results without it!)
Step 2
Heat a non-stick skillet over medium-high heat without adding any oil. Place the chicken thighs skin-side down first. Chicken thighs release quite a bit of their own fat, so cooking without additional oil is recommended. Once the skin is golden brown and crispy, flip the chicken, cover the pan with a lid, and reduce the heat to medium-low. Cook until the chicken is thoroughly cooked through. Covering the pan helps to keep the juices locked inside, ensuring a moist outcome.
Step 3
As the chicken thighs cook, they will release a significant amount of fat into the pan. Carefully remove the chicken pieces to a separate plate for a moment. Then, pour out most of the rendered fat from the pan. This step is crucial for a cleaner, less greasy flavor in the final dish.
Step 4
Return the pan to medium heat. Add the seasoned chicken thighs back to the pan. Now, add 3 tablespoons of butter. Swirl the pan or toss the chicken to coat it evenly with the melting butter. The butter will add richness and help create a delicious, browned exterior. Cook for another minute or so until the butter is fragrant and the chicken is nicely coated.
Step 5
While the chicken is cooking, prepare your side vegetables. Chop your favorite vegetables like broccoli, bell peppers, onions, or mushrooms into bite-sized pieces. Add a little more butter to the same skillet where you cooked the chicken and sauté the vegetables until they are tender-crisp. Arrange the cooked vegetables attractively on a serving plate.
Step 6
Once the chicken thighs are almost fully cooked, pour the prepared special steak sauce into the pan. Reduce the heat to medium-low and let the sauce simmer and thicken, basting the chicken with the sauce as it cooks. Keep an eye on the heat to prevent the sauce from becoming too dry, aiming for a glossy consistency.
Step 7
When the sauce has thickened to a glossy coating that beautifully covers the chicken thighs, turn off the heat. (Tip: Adding whole garlic cloves to the sauce while it simmers would add another layer of delicious flavor. Unfortunately, I didn’t have any on hand this time, but I’ll definitely try it next time!) Transfer the finished chicken thigh steak to the plate with the sautéed vegetables for a stunning meal or a special dish.
