- 1 can of tuna (drained of oil or water)
- 2-3 Tbsp mayonnaise
- A pinch of toasted sesame seeds
Glaze for Grilling- 3 Tbsp soy sauce
- 3 Tbsp mirin (sweet rice wine)
- 2 Tbsp oligosaccharide (or corn syrup/honey)
- 5 Tbsp water
- 3 Tbsp soy sauce
- 3 Tbsp mirin (sweet rice wine)
- 2 Tbsp oligosaccharide (or corn syrup/honey)
- 5 Tbsp water
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, prepare 2 bowls of warm cooked rice. In a large bowl, combine the rice with the drained tuna and 2-3 tablespoons of mayonnaise. Mix thoroughly until all ingredients are well incorporated.
Step 2
Take portions of the mixed rice and shape them into your desired form. Triangular or round shapes are common, but you can also make them bite-sized for children. Press gently but firmly to ensure the rice balls hold their shape.
Step 3
Now, let’s make the sweet and savory glaze for the rice balls. In a small bowl, whisk together 3 tablespoons of soy sauce, 3 tablespoons of mirin, 2 tablespoons of oligosaccharide, and 5 tablespoons of water. Stir until all ingredients are dissolved.
Step 4
It’s time to grill the rice balls! Heat a frying pan over medium-low heat and add a little cooking oil. Carefully place the shaped rice balls onto the pan. It’s important to manage the heat to prevent burning. Grill each side for about 2-3 minutes, gently turning them with a spatula.
Step 5
Once the rice balls start to turn golden brown, generously brush them with the prepared glaze on all sides. Flip them over and grill for another moment to allow the glaze to caramelize and coat the rice balls evenly. You’ll see them become glossy and even more appetizing.
Step 6
Finally, sprinkle some toasted sesame seeds over the beautifully grilled rice balls for a perfect finish! Enjoy them while they are warm for the best flavor. They make a satisfying meal or a delightful snack!
