Ingredients

  • 400g rolled oats
  • 200g pecans (or walnuts, almonds)
  • 100g sunflower seeds
  • 100g dried raspberries (or dried cranberries, raisins)
  • 4 Tbsp honey or maple syrup
  • 1 pinch of salt
  • 1 Tbsp vegetable oil (e.g., canola, grapeseed)
  • 100g toasted perilla seeds (or other seeds/nuts)

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, prepare a baking sheet by lining it with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat. Spread the 400g of rolled oats evenly over the prepared sheet. Oats are the base of your granola, providing a satisfying crunch and nutty flavor.

Step 1

Step 2

Add the 200g of pecans. You can substitute these with walnuts, sliced almonds, or any other nuts you prefer. Feel free to use them whole or roughly chop them for easier eating.

Step 2

Step 3

Sprinkle 100g of sunflower seeds evenly over the oats and pecans. Sunflower seeds add a lovely nutty taste and a delightful pop of texture.

Step 3

Step 4

Add a pinch of salt. Salt enhances the sweetness of the other ingredients and balances the overall flavor profile. Gently mix these dry ingredients together at this stage.

Step 4

Step 5

Drizzle 1 Tbsp of vegetable oil over the mixture. You can use canola oil, grapeseed oil, coconut oil, or any neutral-flavored vegetable oil. The oil helps the granola clump together and achieve a perfect crispiness when baked. Ensure it’s spread evenly.

Step 5

Step 6

Pour in 4 Tbsp of honey or maple syrup. Agave syrup is also a great option. Adjust the amount of sweetener based on your preference. Besides adding sweetness, the syrup acts as a binder, helping the granola clusters form.

Step 6

Step 7

Using your hands or a spatula, thoroughly mix all the ingredients together. Ensure the oats, nuts, and seeds are well coated with the oil and sweetener. This even coating is key to achieving uniform baking. Once mixed, spread the granola mixture evenly on the baking sheet and bake in a preheated oven at 180°C (350°F) for 10 minutes. You will repeat this baking process two more times.

Step 7

Step 8

After the first 10-minute bake, remove the granola from the oven and let it cool slightly. Stir the granola thoroughly, ensuring you mix the top and bottom layers, as well as the sides, for even heat distribution. Now, add the 100g of toasted perilla seeds. You can substitute these with other seeds like pumpkin seeds or sesame seeds.

Step 8

Step 9

After adding the perilla seeds, drizzle a little more honey over the granola. This extra bit of honey will help create sweeter, crispier clusters during the subsequent baking stages. Feel free to adjust the amount.

Step 9

Step 10

Mix everything well again, then return the baking sheet to the oven for another 10 minutes at 180°C (350°F) (second bake). After removing it from the oven, stir the granola once more, ensuring even distribution, and bake it for a final 10 minutes under the same conditions (third bake). This triple baking process is crucial for achieving that signature crispiness.

Step 10

Step 11

Your granola should now have a beautiful, golden-brown color, similar to the picture. Check for your desired level of toasted-ness.

Step 11

Step 12

Once the granola has completely cooled, stir in the 100g of dried raspberries. These add a lovely tartness and visual appeal. Dried cranberries or raisins are also excellent substitutes. The finished granola will have a wonderfully crisp texture. If any clusters are too large, gently break them apart with your hands into bite-sized pieces.

Step 12

Step 13

Enjoy your homemade granola by adding it to cold milk or fresh plain yogurt. Its nutty and sweet flavor is simply delicious, making it a perfect hearty breakfast or healthy snack. Enjoy!
