Ingredients- Inari sushi kit (for 2 servings)
- Crabsticks (Imitation crab meat) 72g
- Cucumber 1/2 medium
- Cooked rice 1.5 cups
- Salt 1 tsp (for salting cucumber)
- Mayonnaise 1 Tbsp (for topping)
- Black pepper to taste
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Prepare half a medium cucumber. Wash it thoroughly. This ingredient will add a delightful crispness to your Inari sushi.
Step 2
Thinly julienne the prepared cucumber. Aim for strips about 0.2-0.3 cm thick. Thin julienning helps the cucumber release water effectively when salted and maintains a pleasant texture.
Step 3
In a bowl, combine the julienned cucumber with 1 teaspoon of salt. Toss gently to coat, then let it sit for 10 minutes to draw out excess moisture. This step is crucial for making the cucumber extra crisp.
Step 4
After salting, rinse the cucumber lightly under cold running water to remove excess salt. Then, gently squeeze out as much water as possible using your hands. Proper squeezing prevents the topping from becoming watery and keeps the cucumber’s crunch. Place the squeezed cucumber in a clean bowl.
Step 5
Prepare 72g of crabsticks (about 4 sticks). Gently shred the crabsticks lengthwise into thin strands. Avoid finely chopping; natural shredding preserves a better texture. Add the shredded crabsticks to the bowl with the cucumber.
Step 6
Add 1 tablespoon of mayonnaise and a generous pinch of black pepper to the bowl with the cucumber and crabsticks. Mix gently with a spatula or spoon, being careful not to mash the ingredients. Ensure the mayonnaise evenly coats the cucumber and crabsticks.
Step 7
In a separate bowl, place 1.5 cups of warm cooked rice. Add the seasoning mix and any other flavor packets included in your Inari sushi kit.
Step 8
Gently mix the rice with the seasoning using a rice paddle or spatula, being careful not to crush the grains. If you prefer a tangier or sweeter taste, you can add a small amount of vinegar or sugar to your preference. Taste and adjust as needed.
Step 9
Carefully open the Inari pockets. Gently squeeze out any excess liquid from the seasoned fried tofu pouches, ensuring they remain moist but not soggy. Then, fill each Inari pocket with a moderate amount of the seasoned sushi rice. Don’t overfill, as it will make adding the topping difficult.
Step 10
Top each filled Inari sushi generously with the prepared cucumber and crabstick salad. The vibrant green of the cucumber and the pinkish hue of the crabsticks create an appealing presentation.
Step 11
Your delicious Cucumber Crabstick Inari Sushi is now complete! These are perfect not just for lunchboxes, but also as a light meal or snack. Enjoy your delightful creation! 🙂
