- Your favorite jam (Fig jam recommended)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, prepare the fresh ingredients for your sandwich. Wash and get your cucumbers, eggs, and bread ready.
Step 2
If your bread has become hard from storage, taking it out of the freezer to thaw will make it soft and usable. If it’s still quite hard, lightly toasting it can help.
Step 3
Prepare the jam that will add sweetness to your sandwich. Here, we’re using fig jam for its smooth texture, but you can use any jam you prefer, such as strawberry or blueberry jam.
Step 4
Using a vegetable peeler, thinly peel the cucumbers. Then, slice them into very thin rounds, about 0.1 cm thick. A mandoline slicer can help you achieve uniform, thin slices.
Step 5
Cut the long cucumber slices in half with scissors into bite-sized pieces. This helps prevent them from sliding out of the sandwich.
Step 6
Lightly toast the frozen bread slices in a pan or oven for a crispier, tastier sandwich. Toast them until golden brown.
Step 7
We’ll be making fried eggs for the sandwich. You can make them sunny-side up to enjoy the runny yolk, or cook them until fully done. Cook them slowly over low heat, being careful not to burn them!
Step 8
Spread a generous amount of mayonnaise on one side of a bread slice. On the other side, spread your chosen jam to your liking. The combination of jam and mayonnaise enhances the flavor.
Step 9
Layer the thinly sliced cucumbers generously on top of the mayonnaise-spread bread. If the cucumber slices are longer than the bread, trim them with scissors to fit. The key is to pile on plenty of cucumber for a satisfying crunch!
Step 10
Carefully place the fried egg you prepared on top of the cucumber slices.
Step 11
Finally, top it off with another slice of bread spread with jam to complete the basic structure of the sandwich.
Step 12
Using sandwich wrappers makes for a neat and easy way to enjoy your sandwich. You can also use wrap paper for gimbap. Place the sandwich in the center of the wrapper, then fold the ends of the wrapper over the sandwich, overlapping them neatly. Be careful not to press too hard.
Step 13
When securing the wrapper, place the tape on the left and right ends, not in the middle. This prevents the tape from getting caught when you cut the sandwich in half.
Step 14
Alternatively, you can fold the sides inward like gift wrapping and then secure it with tape in the middle for a tidy finish.
Step 15
With careful wrapping, your delicious sandwich will be beautifully presented.
Step 16
This recipe yields a total of 4 delicious sandwiches.
Step 17
Cutting the sandwich in half makes it easier to eat, looks attractive when packed in a lunchbox, and is convenient for storage.
Step 18
Although I intended to make a fully cooked fried egg, I ended up with a perfect soft-boiled egg with a wonderfully runny yolk! I was worried the yolk might spill, but it turned into an unexpected bonus, making it even more delicious. (laughs)
Step 19
I bought 2 cucumbers on sale for just 2,000 won. Making 4 sandwiches from these inexpensive ingredients means this is truly the best value meal! You should definitely try making it!
