Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, prepare 6 medium-sized potatoes. Approximately 1kg (2.2 lbs) is ideal.

Step 2

Peel the potatoes carefully. Make sure to remove any sprouts.

Step 3

Now it’s time to grate the potatoes. To safely grate them without hurting your hands, you can pierce a potato with a fork and hold it steady while grating. Alternatively, a food processor can be used for convenience.

Step 4

Here is the grated potato mixture from 6 potatoes, safely prepared using a fork and grater. You can see the smooth, grated potato batter.

Step 5

Place the finely grated potato mixture in a sieve set over a bowl. Gently press down on the potatoes with your hands or a spatula to drain as much liquid as possible. This step is crucial for achieving a crispy texture.

Step 6

Observe the drained liquid. After letting it sit for a moment, you’ll notice a white layer of starch settling at the bottom. Carefully pour off the clear liquid on top, keeping only the settled starch.

Step 7

Combine the drained grated potato with the reserved starch in a large bowl.

Step 8

Add 5 pinches of salt to the mixture. This seasons the potato while enhancing its natural flavor. If you prefer a saltier taste, feel free to add more salt. Mix everything thoroughly until well combined.

Step 9

Heat a generous amount of cooking oil in a frying pan over medium heat. Ladle portions of the batter onto the hot pan and spread them thinly. Avoid making them too thick, as this ensures they cook through and become crispy on the outside.

Step 10

Once one side is golden brown and crispy, flip the pancake and cook the other side until it’s also a beautiful golden color. Adjust the heat as needed to prevent burning.

Step 11

Your delicious ‘Authentic Potato Pancake’ is ready, boasting a wonderfully crispy exterior and a satisfyingly chewy interior! It tastes best when served immediately while warm. 🙂 Enjoy your meal!
