Today, I’m sharing a super simple cabbage pancake recipe that anyone can easily make, yet it tastes absolutely incredible. Cabbage is known for its excellent benefits for stomach health and is rich in dietary fiber, which helps boost bowel movements. Let’s make this delicious pancake using this healthy ingredient, featuring a crispy exterior and a tender, moist interior!
Main Ingredients- 1/2 head cabbage
- 6 Tbsp tempura flour (or all-purpose flour)
- Plenty of cooking oil
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, prepare half a head of cabbage by washing it thoroughly.
Step 2
Using a potato peeler, shave the cabbage as thinly as possible. Shorter, thinner pieces are better for making pancakes than long shreds.
Step 3
If you don’t have a potato peeler, carefully slice the cabbage into very thin shreds with a knife. The thinner the shreds, the crispier the pancake will be.
Step 4
Rinse the shredded cabbage under running water and drain it completely in a colander. It’s crucial to remove excess water, as any remaining moisture can make the pancake soggy.
Step 5
In a bowl, combine the drained cabbage with 6 tablespoons of tempura flour. Here’s a key tip: Do NOT add any water. The batter will form naturally from the moisture in the cabbage itself.

Add the tempura flour and gently mix it with the cabbage. Since the cabbage is thinly sliced, as you mix, it will release its natural moisture, allowing the flour to coat the cabbage evenly without clumping. It might seem like the cabbage pieces are separate, but this is normal.

Prepare a small frying pan (a small egg pan is recommended!). Generously pile the flour-coated cabbage onto the pan. Pile it higher than you normally would, as it will shrink down as it cooks. This helps create a thicker, more satisfying pancake.

Heat a generous amount of cooking oil in the pan over medium-low heat. Cook slowly, frying the pancake until golden brown and crispy on both sides. Frying it ensures a crispy texture. Adjust the heat as needed to prevent burning.
