  • Difficulty : Anyone

Main Ingredients

  • 1 large potato (approx. 200g)
  • 3 strips thick-cut bacon
  • 2 slices processed cheese
  • 2 Tbsp tempura flour (or all-purpose flour/cornstarch)
  • Pinch of dried parsley
  • 2 pinches salt

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, peel the potato and slice it into very thin matchsticks. Rinse the shredded potato in cold water to remove excess starch, then drain thoroughly in a colander. Cut the bacon into approximately 1cm pieces. (Adjust the amount of bacon to your preference.)

Step 1

Step 2

In a bowl, combine the drained potato shreds and the cut bacon. Add 2 tablespoons of tempura flour, 1 egg, and 2 pinches of salt. (You can omit the egg if you don’t have one, but it helps bind the ingredients and adds a softer texture.)

Step 2

Step 3

Mix everything together thoroughly until well combined. If you don’t have tempura flour, all-purpose flour or cornstarch will work just fine. Use whatever flour you have on hand to achieve a good batter consistency.

Step 3

Step 4

Heat a frying pan over medium-high heat and add a generous amount of cooking oil. Pour about two-thirds of the batter into the pan and spread it out thinly into a pancake shape. It’s crucial to preheat the pan well before adding the batter to ensure a crispy finish.

Step 4

Step 5

Once the bottom side is golden brown and cooked through, carefully flip the pancake using a spatula.

Step 5

Step 6

Immediately after flipping, place one slice of cheese on top of the cooked side. The residual heat will gently melt the cheese, creating a delicious gooey layer that complements the potato pancake.

Step 6

Step 7

Finally, sprinkle a pinch of dried parsley over the top. Your delicious bacon and cheese potato pancake is ready! Serve hot for the best experience of crispy edges and a tender, moist center.
