Kimbap Ingredients- 2 sheets of kimbap seaweed
- 1 bowl of rice (approx. 210g)
- 1/2 kimbap ham
- 1 kimbap imitation crab stick
- 2 strips of pickled radish (danmuji)
- 1 egg
- Wasabi, to taste
- 2-3 Tbsp mayonnaise
- 1 tsp sesame oil
- Sesame seeds, to garnish
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Prepare all the ingredients for the kimbap. Cook the rice until fluffy and slightly firm. While warm, mix in a little sesame oil and sesame seeds for a subtle seasoning.
Step 2
Peel the apple, remove the core, and slice it into thin strips, about 0.5 cm thick. Finely julienne the onion and cabbage to a similar thickness. If using Cheongyang chili peppers, remove the seeds and mince them finely.
Step 3
If using king crab imitation crab sticks, shred them lengthwise. If using regular imitation crab sticks, cut them into bite-sized pieces.
Step 4
In a bowl, combine the sliced apples, julienned onions and cabbage, minced chili peppers (if using), and shredded imitation crab sticks. Add 1-2 tablespoons of mayonnaise and a sprinkle of sesame seeds. Gently mix everything, being careful not to mash the apple pieces. Add mayonnaise gradually, adjusting to your preference, as too much can cause the filling to spill out.
Step 5
Whisk the egg and cook it into a thin omelet. Let it cool, then slice it into strips about 0.5 cm thick. Slice the kimbap ham to fit the kimbap size and pan-fry it until golden brown with a little oil. Lightly pan-frying the imitation crab sticks can also enhance their flavor.
Step 6
Sprinkle a little more sesame seeds onto the apple salad for extra nuttiness and arrange the prepared kimbap fillings neatly.
Step 7
Place a sheet of kimbap seaweed on a bamboo mat. Spread a thin, even layer of rice over the seaweed, leaving a small border at the top. Layer the kimbap ham, imitation crab sticks, pickled radish, and the prepared apple salad down the center. Carefully roll the kimbap tightly using the bamboo mat, ensuring the fillings are secure. Lightly dampen the top edge of the seaweed with water to seal the roll.
Step 8
If the rice sticks to your knife when cutting the kimbap, try dipping the blade in sesame oil. This will help you cut cleaner slices for a neater presentation.
Step 9
Your delicious Apple Salad Kimbap is ready! The crisp apple salad combined with the rice and other ingredients creates a wonderfully unique flavor. It’s a fresh and delightful kimbap that pairs perfectly with children’s meals or serves as a light, satisfying option.
