Main Ingredients- 150g Vienna sausages
- 150ml cooking oil
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
The first step to making delicious Vienna Sausage Gangjeong! On one side of each Vienna sausage, make a cross-shaped cut to resemble an octopus. This helps the glaze penetrate evenly and creates a more appealing shape when fried. Be careful not to cut too deep; just make shallow cuts.
Step 2
Now, let’s prepare the sweet and savory glaze for the Vienna sausages. In a bowl, combine 1 Tbsp sugar, 1 Tbsp corn syrup, 1 Tbsp soy sauce, and 2 Tbsp water. Stir well until the sugar is dissolved. Pre-mixing the sauce will make the next steps much easier.
Step 3
It’s time to fry the sausages! Pour about 150ml of cooking oil into a pan and preheat over medium heat. Once the oil is moderately hot, add the scored Vienna sausages and fry until golden brown. Fry them until they puff up and the outside becomes slightly crispy. Frying over medium heat ensures they cook through and maintain a nice shape.
Step 4
After frying, place the Vienna sausages on paper towels to absorb any excess oil. This makes them cleaner and less greasy. Be careful not to over-fry, as they can become tough. Aim for a lightly golden exterior.
Step 5
Prepare a saucepan and pour the prepared glaze into it. Bring it to a boil over high heat. Once it starts boiling, reduce the heat slightly. The sauce will begin to thicken as it simmers.
Step 6
When the sauce is bubbling, add all the drained Vienna sausages and continue to cook over high heat, stirring constantly with a spatula or chopsticks. Coat the sausages evenly with the sauce and let it reduce until it becomes glossy and thick, about 1-2 minutes. Don’t over-reduce, or the sausages might become hard. Enjoy your delicious Vienna Sausage Gangjeong!
