Crispy and Sweet Nurungji Fritters
A Taste of Nostalgia: Crispy, Sweet, and Nutty Nurungji Fritters for a Delightful Snack!
I made the Nurungji Fritters that my childhood friend’s mom used to make for me. It’s a trip down memory lane with every bite!
Ingredients- Nurungji (Korean scorched rice – prepare to your liking; thinner pieces are easier to fry)
- Canola oil (enough to generously cover the nurungji)
- Sugar (to taste)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Pour a generous amount of canola oil into a wide, shallow pan. You’ll want enough oil to submerge the nurungji so it fries evenly and becomes delightfully crispy. Turn on the heat and let the oil warm up.
Step 2
To test if the oil is hot enough, drop a small piece of nurungji into the pan. If it immediately starts to bubble and sizzle, the oil is ready for frying. Carefully add the prepared nurungji pieces to the hot oil.
Step 3
Watch as the nurungji turns golden brown and wonderfully crispy in the pan. To prevent burning and ensure a rich, nutty flavor, it’s best to fry over medium-low heat. Once it achieves a beautiful golden hue, it’s perfectly fried.
Step 4
Now it’s time to drain the perfectly fried nurungji. Line a plate with paper towels and carefully place the fried nurungji on top. This step helps to absorb any excess oil, ensuring a delightfully crisp texture.
Step 5
Finally, sprinkle your desired amount of sugar generously over the warm, crispy nurungji fritters. The added sweetness transforms them into a beloved snack that everyone will enjoy! Serve immediately for the best crunch, or enjoy with a glass of milk.
