Hello everyone! Can you believe February is already here? Time flies by so fast! Today, we’re making ‘Tofu Crackers’ – a simple, savory, and wonderfully crisp snack using tofu. It’s perfect for a quick bite!
Main Ingredients- 1 block Tofu (approx. 300-350g)
Dough and Frying Ingredients- 1 cup Flour (all-purpose or cake flour, approx. 120g)
- 3 Tbsp Sugar (adjust to taste)
- 1 Tbsp Butter (softened at room temperature)
- 1/8 tsp Salt
- 500ml Cooking Oil (for frying)

Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Prepare the Tofu: Take one block of tofu. It’s crucial to remove as much water as possible. Wrap the tofu in paper towels and let it drain on a sieve for at least 30 minutes. Once drained, use a fork or a masher to thoroughly mash the tofu until there are no lumps. Place it in a mixing bowl.
Step 2
Sift Dry Ingredients: Sift 1 cup of flour to ensure it’s free of clumps. This step helps create a smoother dough and prevents lumps. Sift it finely.
Step 3
Cream Butter and Sugar: In a mixing bowl, add 1 tablespoon of softened butter. Then, add 3 tablespoons of sugar. Using a hand mixer or a whisk, beat the butter and sugar together until the mixture becomes pale and creamy (this is called creaming). Creaming enhances the flavor and texture of the crackers.
Step 4
Prepare for Frying: Pour about 500ml of cooking oil into a deep pot or frying pan. Slowly heat the oil over low heat. The ideal frying temperature is around 170℃ (340℉). You can test the temperature by inserting a chopstick or wooden skewer into the oil; if small bubbles form around it, the oil is ready.

Make the Dough: To the mashed tofu in the mixing bowl, add the sifted flour and 1/8 teaspoon of salt. Gently mix with a spatula or your hands until a cohesive dough forms. Be careful not to overmix, as this can make the crackers tough. Mix just until no dry flour is visible.
Step 6
Fry the Crackers: Once the oil reaches about 170℃, carefully drop portions of the dough into the hot oil using a spoon or your hands. Make sure the pieces don’t clump together. Fry for about 3-4 minutes, or until they turn a golden brown color. Remove the crackers from the oil and place them on paper towels to drain excess oil. Let them cool completely, and enjoy your crispy homemade tofu crackers!
