Ingredients
- 3 sheets of flat, square fish cakes (eomuk)
- 1 egg
- All-purpose flour (recommended for coating), for dredging
- Panko breadcrumbs, for coating
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, cut the flat, square fish cakes into bite-sized pieces that are easy for both children and adults to eat. Cutting them too small might cause them to break apart during frying, so pieces around 5x5cm are ideal.
Step 2
In a clean disposable plastic bag, add a generous amount of all-purpose flour. Place the cut fish cakes inside the bag and shake it to coat the surface of the fish cakes evenly with flour. Lightly tap off any excess flour.
Step 3
In a separate bowl, crack one egg and whisk it well to create an egg wash. Dip the flour-dusted fish cakes into the egg wash, ensuring they are coated evenly on both sides.
Step 4
Transfer the egg-washed fish cakes into a bag of panko breadcrumbs. Close the bag and press gently to thoroughly coat the fish cakes with breadcrumbs. Pressing lightly as you coat will help them become extra crispy when fried.
Step 5
The fish cakes are now ready for frying after being coated with breadcrumbs. Handle them carefully to prevent the coating from coming off.
Step 6
Pour a generous amount of cooking oil into a deep pan. Heat the oil over high heat until it’s sufficiently hot (you can test by dropping a few breadcrumbs; they should sizzle and rise immediately). Then, reduce the heat to medium and carefully place the fish cakes into the oil.
Step 7
Fry the fish cakes for about 3-4 minutes, or until they turn a delicious golden brown color. Flip them occasionally to ensure they cook evenly.
Step 8
Once perfectly fried, transfer the fish cakes to a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil. Serve them warm immediately for a delightful plate of crispy fried fish cakes!
