The Joy of Frying Crab Sticks! Delicious Crab Stick Cheese Rolls ★
What happens when you roll crab sticks in seaweed and deep-fry them? You get an incredibly delicious fried side dish! It’s unbelievably easy! This recipe promises a crispy exterior with a delightful, gooey cheese and savory crab stick filling, enhanced by the fragrant aroma of perilla leaves. Perfect as a side dish for rice or a tasty snack with drinks. Let’s make these amazing fried rolls!
Main Ingredients- 3 sheets of Gim (Korean seaweed for kimbap)
- 12 crab sticks
- 3 slices of processed cheese
- 6 perilla leaves
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, wash the perilla leaves thoroughly under running water and remove the stems. Then, cut each leaf in half lengthwise. This preparation step ensures they fit nicely when rolled.
Step 2
Similarly, cut the slices of processed cheese in half. It’s best to prepare the cheese just before frying to prevent it from melting and leaking out.
Step 3
Lay one sheet of kimbap seaweed flat on a cutting board. Place 2 crab sticks side-by-side on the seaweed. Layer with 1 perilla leaf, 1 slice of cheese, and another perilla leaf on top. Finish by placing 2 more crab sticks on the very top. Carefully roll everything up tightly. You can moisten the edge of the seaweed with a little water to help it seal.
Step 4
In a bowl, combine 1 measuring cup of frying powder with 1/2 measuring cup of water. Whisk with chopsticks until a smooth batter forms, free of lumps. The batter should be thick enough to coat the ingredients well but not too dense.
Step 5
Dip the rolled crab stick and cheese rolls (from step 2) into the prepared frying batter, ensuring they are evenly coated. A good coating will result in a crispier and more attractive fried finish.
Step 6
Heat a generous amount of cooking oil in a deep pan or pot over medium heat. Once the oil is hot enough (a drop of batter should sizzle immediately), carefully add the battered rolls. Fry them, turning occasionally, until they are golden brown and crispy on all sides. Be cautious not to fry them on excessively high heat, as this can burn the outside while leaving the inside undercooked. Once fried, transfer the rolls to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil. Your delicious crab stick cheese rolls are ready to serve!
