Crispy and Savory Baked Seaweed with Olive Oil
Homemade Flavored Seaweed (Jomigim) using Laver
Enjoy the delightful crunch and rich, nutty flavor of oven-baked laver, brushed with olive oil. This recipe makes delicious homemade flavored seaweed (jomigim) that’s perfect as a snack or a side dish!
Main Ingredients- 10 sheets of laver (gim)
Seasoning Ingredients- 10 Tbsp olive oil
- A pinch of fine salt
- 10 Tbsp olive oil
- A pinch of fine salt
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
On one side of a sheet of laver, use a pastry brush to spread 1 Tbsp of olive oil thinly and evenly. Brushing with olive oil will make the seaweed crispier and enhance its flavor.
Step 2
Lightly sprinkle a pinch of fine salt in the center of the oiled laver. Then, use the brush to gently spread the salt, allowing it to dissolve. Place another sheet of laver on top of the salted one, and spread olive oil and salt on the top side as well. Repeat this process for all 10 sheets of laver.
Step 3
For the seaweed that will be layered inside, fold it in half and lightly brush the outside with olive oil and salt. This helps keep the seaweed pliable and prevents it from breaking easily. Then, cut the seaweed into 4 equal portions and stack them together. (Total of 5 stacks)
Step 4
Place the prepared seaweed stacks into a preheated oven at 200°C (392°F) and bake for 3 minutes. After 3 minutes, take them out, gently toss them to mix, and bake for another 3 minutes. This step ensures even baking.
Step 5
You’ll notice the color of the seaweed changing from dark to a greenish hue, and the edges will start to crisp up. Spread the seaweed out flat and bake for an additional 3-5 minutes. Finally, remove, flip, and use the residual heat to ensure the inside is also crispy. Adjust baking time according to your oven’s specifications.
Step 6
Your thin, crispy, and savory baked laver (jomigim) is ready! It’s wonderful served on top of warm rice or as a simple side dish.
