Crispy and Refreshing Radish Salad (Musaengchae) – The Ultimate Side Dish!
Super Simple Korean Radish Salad: Enjoy the Ultimate Crunchy Texture and Rich Nutrients!
Radishes are a winter vegetable packed with benefits! They aid digestion and are rich in vitamins and fiber, making them excellent for gut health and even soothing coughs. Try this incredibly simple Musaengchae recipe for a delightful, crunchy side dish!
Main Ingredients- 150g radish
- 1 tsp fine gochugaru (Korean chili powder)
- A pinch of saeujeot (fermented shrimp) or coarse sea salt
- A pinch of minced garlic
- A pinch of sesame seeds
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, thoroughly wash the 150g of radish. Slice it into thin, 3-4mm thick pieces (like thin coins), and then cut these pieces into 3-4mm thick matchsticks. This thickness ensures the seasonings penetrate well and maintains a delightful crunch.
Step 2
Sift 1 teaspoon of fine gochugaru through a sieve. This step helps to remove any clumps and ensures the chili powder coats the radish evenly with a beautiful red hue.
Step 3
In a large bowl, combine the julienned radish with the sifted gochugaru. Gently toss with your hands to coat the radish evenly with the chili powder. Be careful not to mix too vigorously, as this can release excess water from the radish and make it less crisp.
Step 4
Now, add a pinch of minced garlic and a small amount of saeujeot (or coarse sea salt). Season to taste, gradually adding more if needed. Saeujeot will add a savory depth, while coarse sea salt provides salinity. Mix gently again until all ingredients are well combined.
Step 5
Finally, transfer the finished Musaengchae to a serving plate. Sprinkle with sesame seeds for a nutty aroma and visual appeal. This dish is delicious served immediately, or you can chill it in the refrigerator for a short while for an even more refreshing taste.
