Main Ingredients- Seoritae (dried black beans) 1 cup
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Many people enjoy black beans mixed with rice, but might not know other ways to use them. However, don’t worry! With this recipe, you can easily make delicious and nutty black bean snacks right at home.
Step 2
Commercially available dried black beans (Seoritae) have had their moisture removed for long-term storage, making them very hard. If you try to cook them in this state, they’ll be too hard to chew. So, there’s an essential step before you start cooking.
Step 3
First, thoroughly wash the Seoritae beans under running water. This is an important step to remove any dust or impurities clinging to the bean skins.
Step 4
Place the washed Seoritae beans in a bowl and cover them with enough cold water to fully submerge them. Soaking time should be about 3 to 5 hours. You can soak them overnight and use them in the morning, but be careful not to soak them for too long, as the beans might burst or become mushy.
Step 5
I soaked the beans for about 5 hours. If the soaking water turns reddish, don’t be alarmed. This is a natural color released from the black beans, so it’s perfectly fine.
Step 6
Rinse the soaked beans one more time under clean water, then drain them thoroughly in a colander. If there’s residual moisture, the beans may become soggy during the roasting process.
Step 7
If this is your first time making roasted Seoritae snacks, it’s a good idea to try a small batch first. Different air fryers can vary in heat intensity and cooking times, even at the same temperature and setting. Finding the optimal time for your specific air fryer is key.
Step 8
Spread the drained Seoritae beans evenly in a single layer in your air fryer basket or tray, ensuring they don’t overlap. Place them in a preheated air fryer at 180°C (356°F) and roast for 10 minutes. After 10 minutes, you’ll see the beans are slightly undercooked, possibly with a hint of green. Take them out and give them a good stir to ensure even cooking.
Step 9
Return the beans to the air fryer and roast again at 180°C (356°F) for another 10 minutes. After this second round, the beans should look nicely browned. While they are delicious at this stage, for an even crispier and nuttier snack, we’ll give them one more roast.
Step 10
Finally, put the Seoritae back into the air fryer and roast at 180°C (356°F) for just 5 more minutes. This final step will give each bean a beautiful, golden-brown color.
Step 11
Here are the air fryer roasted black beans, cooked at 180°C (356°F) for a total of 25 minutes. They look appetizing, don’t they?
Step 12
Right after roasting, the beans will be hot and may not feel very crispy. Spread them out on a wide plate or tray and let them cool completely. Once fully cooled, you’ll experience an incredibly crispy and nutty texture – just like homemade puffed black beans!
