Essential Ingredients- 300g Tteokbokki rice cakes (soaked and drained)
- 2 Tbsp Cooking oil
- 1 Tbsp Butter
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Prepare 300g of tteokbokki rice cakes. If they are hard, soak them in cold water for about 30 minutes until softened. Drain them thoroughly on a sieve. This step helps prevent oil splatter and ensures the cakes don’t clump together when frying.
Step 2
In a heated pan, add 2 tablespoons of cooking oil and 1 tablespoon of butter. Adding butter enhances the nutty aroma, making the dish even more delicious. Melt the butter over medium-low heat to prevent burning.
Step 3
Add the drained rice cakes to the pan and stir-fry them until they are almost fried. Continue to cook over medium heat for about 5 minutes until the rice cakes turn golden brown and slightly crispy. Stirring constantly will prevent them from sticking together.
Step 4
Once the rice cakes are golden brown, add 3 tablespoons of sugar, 1 tablespoon of soy sauce, and 1 tablespoon of toasted sesame seeds. Stir quickly to coat the rice cakes. The sugar will melt and create a delicious caramel coating. Keep the heat at medium to prevent burning.
Step 5
Add 0.5 tablespoon of minced garlic and stir-fry for about 30 seconds until fragrant. A hint of garlic aroma will add a deeper flavor dimension to the dish.
Step 6
Finally, add 2 tablespoons of gochujang and stir-fry until all ingredients and seasonings are well combined. Be cautious when adding gochujang; stir-fry on medium heat to avoid burning, as it can stick easily.
Step 7
Reduce the heat to low and continue to stir-fry for another 1-2 minutes, ensuring the sauce coats the rice cakes evenly and doesn’t burn. The oil rice cakes are ready when they look glossy and the sauce has slightly thickened.
Step 8
Serve the finished oil rice cakes attractively on a plate. For an extra touch of texture and nutty flavor, sprinkle with your favorite nuts. Enjoy with a cold beverage!
