- 1 Green Onion (Finely chopped)
- 3 cups Water (For boiling the bean sprouts)
Seasoning- 1/2 Tbsp Salt (Adjust to taste)
- 2 Tbsp Gochugaru (Korean chili flakes – for color and mild spice)
- 1 Tbsp Minced Garlic
- 1/2 Tbsp Toasted Sesame Seeds
- 1 Tbsp Perilla Oil (Adds a subtle nutty aroma and smoothness)
- 1/2 Tbsp Salt (Adjust to taste)
- 2 Tbsp Gochugaru (Korean chili flakes – for color and mild spice)
- 1 Tbsp Minced Garlic
- 1/2 Tbsp Toasted Sesame Seeds
- 1 Tbsp Perilla Oil (Adds a subtle nutty aroma and smoothness)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, prepare the plump stem bean sprouts, which are ideal for steaming. Trim off any unsightly ends of the bean sprouts. If they are clean, you can leave them as they are. Using fresh sprouts is key to a delicious seasoned dish.
Step 2
Gently rinse the bean sprouts under running water, swirling them around to thoroughly remove any remaining bean skins. It’s important to clean them well, as leftover skins can affect the texture.
Step 3
Place the cleaned bean sprouts into a pot and add 3 cups of water. Cover the pot and bring to a boil over high heat. Once steam is vigorously escaping from the pot, continue to cook for another 3 minutes. After turning off the heat, do not open the lid immediately. Let it steam for 1 more minute; this will help the bean sprouts become extra crispy and tender.
Step 4
Drain the cooked bean sprouts and let them cool completely. Once cooled, add all the prepared seasoning ingredients (salt, gochugaru, minced garlic, sesame seeds, and perilla oil) to the bean sprouts. Gently mix everything together. Start with less salt and taste before adding more, adjusting the seasoning to your preference.
Step 5
And there you have it – your delicious Kongnamul Muchim is ready! The delightful crunch and the well-balanced seasoning make it a perfect accompaniment to rice. It’s an easy-to-make side dish that the whole family can enjoy.
