Kkanpung Mandu Main Ingredients

  • 7-8 frozen dumplings (choose according to preference)
  • 1/2 onion (chopped)
  • 1 green chili pepper (finely chopped)
  • 1/2 red chili pepper (finely chopped)
  • 2 cloves garlic (sliced or minced)
  • Vegetable oil, for frying

Sweet and Spicy Kkanpung Sauce

  • 2 Tbsp sugar
  • 1 Tbsp soy sauce
  • 1/4 Tbsp oyster sauce (for umami boost!)
  • 2 Tbsp vinegar (for a sweet and sour taste)
  • 2 Tbsp water

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

Take the frozen dumplings out of their packaging and let them thaw slightly at room temperature. Then, thoroughly pat them dry with paper towels to remove any excess moisture. Removing moisture prevents oil splattering and helps achieve a crispier texture.

Step 1

Step 2

Finely chop the onion. Finely chop the green and red chili peppers, removing the seeds. Slice or mince the garlic cloves. In a small bowl, combine all the Kkanpung sauce ingredients (sugar, soy sauce, oyster sauce, vinegar, and water) and mix well until the sugar dissolves. Set aside.

Step 2

Step 3

Heat a frying pan over medium heat and add a generous amount of vegetable oil. Place the thawed dumplings in the hot oil. Fry them until golden brown and crispy on all sides, turning them occasionally. Once cooked, transfer the fried dumplings to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.

Step 3

Step 4

Using the same pan with a little remaining oil (or add a touch more if needed), heat it over medium heat. Add the sliced garlic and sauté until fragrant. Then, add the chopped onion and stir-fry until it becomes translucent.

Step 4

Step 5

Pour the prepared Kkanpung sauce over the sautéed garlic and onions. Cook over medium-low heat, allowing the sauce to simmer and thicken slightly, coating the ingredients. Be careful not to let it burn.

Step 5

Step 6

Once the sauce is simmering, add the fried dumplings and the chopped green and red chili peppers to the pan.

Step 6

Step 7

Turn the heat up to high. Quickly toss everything together to coat the dumplings and vegetables evenly with the sauce. Stir-fry for about 1 minute. It’s important to cook quickly over high heat to prevent the dumplings from becoming soggy.

Step 7

Step 8

A delicious Kkanpung Mandu, with its enticing sweet and spicy aroma, is now ready! Enjoy it immediately while it’s warm for the best flavor.
