Mastering the Art of Crispy Fried Zucchini: Perfect for New Year’s Home Parties
Let’s make a special dish with the humble zucchini from your refrigerator! Introducing an easy and delicious way to make perfectly crispy on the outside, tender on the inside fried zucchini. Everyone will be impressed when you serve this at holidays or for guests.
Main Ingredient- 1 medium zucchini
Crispy Batter- 3 Tbsp frying powder
- 1 Tbsp grated Parmesan cheese (for extra flavor!)
- 1 large egg
- 5 Tbsp breadcrumbs
- 3 Tbsp frying powder
- 1 Tbsp grated Parmesan cheese (for extra flavor!)
- 1 large egg
- 5 Tbsp breadcrumbs
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Prepare one fresh zucchini. Wash it thoroughly under running water to remove any dirt or debris.
Step 2
Trim off the stem and blossom ends from both sides of the zucchini.
Step 3
Cut the prepared zucchini in half lengthwise. This makes it easier to handle for frying.
Step 4
Cut each of the lengthwise halves in half again. Aim for pieces that are slightly longer than bite-sized.
Step 5
Finally, cut these pieces into three equal lengths, creating pieces about 3-4 cm long. These are the perfect size for frying.
Step 6
In a wide bowl, combine 3 tablespoons of frying powder with 1 tablespoon of grated Parmesan cheese and mix well. The Parmesan cheese adds a delightful nutty flavor.
Step 7
Add the sliced zucchini pieces to the flour and cheese mixture. Gently toss them to ensure an even coating of the powder. Lightly shake off any excess powder.
Step 8
In a separate bowl, beat 1 egg to create an egg wash. Dip each coated zucchini piece into the egg wash, ensuring it’s fully covered on all sides.
Step 9
Spread 5 tablespoons of breadcrumbs onto a plate. Roll the egg-washed zucchini pieces in the breadcrumbs, pressing gently to coat them completely. A good breadcrumb coating is key to a crispy finish.
Step 10
Heat a generous amount of cooking oil in a deep pan over medium heat. Once the oil is sufficiently hot (around 170-180°C or 340-350°F), carefully add the breaded zucchini pieces. Fry until they turn a beautiful golden brown, about 3-4 minutes.
Step 11
Remove the freshly fried zucchini from the oil and place them on a wire rack to drain excess oil. While they are delicious immediately, for extra crispiness, let them cool slightly and then fry them again for another 1-2 minutes. This double-frying technique enhances the crunch.
Step 12
Once fried to perfection, sprinkle a little extra grated Parmesan cheese over the zucchini fries for an enhanced cheesy flavor, if desired.
Step 13
These are best enjoyed hot! We enjoyed them simply by dipping them in mayonnaise, but they are also fantastic with a sweet and savory soy sauce-based dip or a slightly spicy gochujang sauce. Experiment with your favorite condiments!
Step 14
Enjoy your delicious meal today! We hope you have a wonderful time with these fried zucchini.
