Main Ingredients- 1/4 head of cabbage (approx. 200g)
- 4 sheets of square fish cake (approx. 200g)
- 2 Cheongyang peppers (optional, for a spicy kick)
- 1 Tbsp minced garlic (15g)
- 2 Tbsp cooking oil (30ml)
- 2 Tbsp soy sauce (30ml)
- 0.5 Tbsp sugar (7.5g)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, prepare the fish cakes. Cut the square fish cakes into long, bite-sized pieces, about 0.5cm thick. If serving to children, you can cut them a bit smaller.
Step 2
Next, prepare the cabbage. Remove the core and thinly shred the cabbage into strips about 0.5cm thick. It’s important to cut them to a consistent thickness to maintain the cabbage’s natural sweetness and crispiness.
Step 3
Now, let’s start stir-frying! Heat a frying pan over medium heat, add 2 tablespoons of cooking oil, and add the prepared fish cakes. Stir-fry until the fish cakes are slightly golden for a nuttier flavor.
Step 4
Once the fish cakes are partially cooked, add all the shredded cabbage to the pan and stir-fry together. Sauté for about 30 seconds until the cabbage just begins to soften. Be careful not to overcook, as it might lose its crispiness.
Step 5
While the cabbage and fish cakes meld together, add 1 tablespoon of minced garlic to enhance the aroma. Stir-fry to release the fragrant garlic scent.
Step 6
If you enjoy a bit of heat, finely chop or thinly slice 2 Cheongyang peppers and add them. You can omit them if you prefer a milder dish. For children, removing the seeds will reduce the spiciness.
Step 7
Time for seasoning. Pour 2 tablespoons of soy sauce along the edges of the pan. This allows the soy sauce to slightly caramelize, adding a deeper flavor. Stir everything together evenly.
Step 8
To add a touch of sweetness, add 0.5 tablespoon of sugar. Feel free to adjust the sugar amount to your preference. Stir-fry until the soy sauce and sugar are well combined.
Step 9
Finally, continue to stir-fry for another 1-2 minutes until the cabbage is fully tender and all the flavors have melded together. Just before turning off the heat, sprinkle with sesame seeds for an extra nutty aroma. Your delicious Cabbage and Fish Cake Stir-fry is ready! It makes a wonderful meal served over warm rice.
