Ingredients- Dried spaghetti (about 100g)
- Cooking oil (for deep frying), generously
- Sugar, 2-3 tablespoons (adjust to taste)
- Salt, 1/4 teaspoon (adjust to taste)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, prepare the spaghetti. To make it easier to fry and eat, break the dried spaghetti strands into 2-3 pieces by hand. You should hear a ‘snap’ as they break. This size is perfect for little hands to hold and snack on.
Step 2
In a deep frying pan or pot, add enough cooking oil to generously cover the broken spaghetti pieces. Using a dedicated frying pot or a deep pan will help prevent oil splatters and ensure more even frying.
Step 3
Gently heat the oil over low heat. If the oil is too hot, the spaghetti will burn quickly. The oil is ready when small bubbles gently rise around a wooden chopstick dipped in it. Once the oil is at the right temperature, carefully add the broken spaghetti.
Step 4
Once the spaghetti is in the oil, resist the urge to turn up the heat – keep it on low! Using chopsticks or tongs, stir the spaghetti continuously as it fries. This prevents them from clumping together and ensures they cook evenly. Keep a close eye to prevent burning.
Step 5
The spaghetti is perfectly fried when its color changes from a bright yellow to a golden brown. Quickly remove the fried spaghetti from the oil and place it on a plate lined with paper towels to absorb excess oil. This step is crucial for maintaining its crispiness.
Step 6
While the excess oil drains, it’s time to season! Transfer the warm, fried spaghetti to a bowl. Sprinkle generously with sugar and then lightly with salt. The key is to add the seasonings while the spaghetti is still hot; this helps the sugar and salt adhere well, creating a beautiful coating. Add more sugar for a sweeter taste or a pinch more salt for a saltier kick – the perfect sweet and salty combination is truly addictive!
