Main Ingredients- 750g fresh scallion, thinly sliced (scallion threads)
Golden Ratio Seasoning- 4 Tbsp soy sauce (approx. 60ml)
- 2 Tbsp sugar (approx. 20g)
- 1 Tbsp minced garlic (approx. 10g)
- 1 Tbsp plum extract (or syrup) (approx. 15ml)
- A pinch of toasted sesame seeds
- 1 Tbsp sesame oil or perilla oil (approx. 15ml)
- 4 Tbsp soy sauce (approx. 60ml)
- 2 Tbsp sugar (approx. 20g)
- 1 Tbsp minced garlic (approx. 10g)
- 1 Tbsp plum extract (or syrup) (approx. 15ml)
- A pinch of toasted sesame seeds
- 1 Tbsp sesame oil or perilla oil (approx. 15ml)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, rinse the 750g of sliced scallions thoroughly under cold running water. If the scallions are too pungent or spicy, you can soak them in cold water for over 30 minutes before draining them well. This will make them milder and more enjoyable. Now, let’s start making the seasoning! Pour 4 tablespoons of soy sauce over the prepared scallions.
Step 2
Next, add 2 tablespoons of sugar. Sugar is crucial for balancing the spiciness of the scallions and enhancing their overall savory flavor.
Step 3
Add 1 tablespoon of plum extract (or syrup) for a touch of sweetness and subtle fragrance. Plum extract offers a different kind of deep sweetness and aroma compared to regular sugar.
Step 4
For the finishing touch of aroma and richness, drizzle 1 tablespoon of sesame oil or perilla oil. Both oils will significantly enhance the flavor of your scallion salad.
Step 5
Oops, I forgot to take a picture of this step, but don’t forget to add 1 tablespoon of minced garlic! The pungent garlic aroma will make the scallion salad even more flavorful. Finally, sprinkle a good pinch of toasted sesame seeds for added nuttiness. Now, gently toss and mix the scallions with the seasoning using your hands until everything is well combined. Once the dressing has evenly coated the scallions, your delicious scallion salad is ready! It’s a perfect side dish to enjoy with a warm bowl of rice or alongside grilled meats like pork belly or Korean BBQ. Enjoy!
