Perfect for Picnic Lunch Boxes: Creative Inari Sushi Rice Balls
Tired of the usual inari sushi? Let’s break away from the norm! With a little creativity, you can make unique and delicious inari sushi rice balls that are perfect for picnics and kids’ snacks. This recipe offers a fun twist on a classic favorite.
Main Ingredients- 12-piece pack of store-bought Inari sushi wrappers
- 1 bowl of cooked rice (approx. 210g), warm
- 3 sticks of imitation crab meat (Kani Kama)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, prepare the inari sushi wrappers from the store-bought set. If they feel too moist, gently squeeze out any excess liquid with your hands. Be careful not to squeeze too hard, as they might break.
Step 2
Finely chop the drained inari wrappers. Aim for pieces about 0.5 cm in size. Chopping them finely will ensure they mix well with the rice and create a pleasant texture when eaten.
Step 3
In a bowl of warm rice, add 1 packet of furikake (seasoned seaweed and sesame flakes). You can choose your favorite type of furikake. Add only about 2/3 of the sushi vinegar seasoning packet that comes with the inari set; omit the vinegar or use a very small amount. Mix the rice well with the furikake and seasoning until evenly combined.
Step 4
Shred the imitation crab meat sticks following their natural grain. Then, finely chop them into 1-2 cm pieces for easier mixing with the rice. Add the chopped inari wrappers to the bowl as well.
Step 5
Now, combine the rice mixture, shredded crab meat, and chopped inari wrappers in the bowl. Gently mix all the ingredients together using a spatula or spoon, taking care not to mash the rice grains. Once well combined, put on disposable gloves and shape the mixture into bite-sized round rice balls, about 3-4 cm in diameter.
Step 6
These beautifully crafted inari rice balls are perfect for an appealing picnic lunch box or as a delightful snack for children. For an extra touch of visual appeal, you can garnish them with cherry tomatoes or small vegetable skewers. Enjoy your creative and delicious inari sushi rice balls!
