Ingredients

  • Soy milk 250ml (or homemade soybean water)
  • Perilla seed powder 2 Tbsp
  • Pasta for 2 servings (approx. 160g)
  • 1/2 Onion
  • 1 Tbsp minced garlic
  • 1 Tbsp ‘Yeondu’ (or soy sauce)
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • A pinch of parsley flakes for garnish

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, cook your favorite pasta according to the package directions in generously salted boiling water. Cook until al dente. Once cooked, drain the pasta well. Be careful not to overcook it.

Step 2

Finely chop the onion. Heat a pan over medium heat with a good drizzle of olive oil. Add the minced garlic and chopped onion, and sauté until the onion becomes translucent and fragrant. Stir frequently to prevent burning.

Step 2

Step 3

Once the onions are softened and lightly browned, pour in the soy milk (or soybean water) and stir constantly over medium heat. Bring it to a gentle simmer, watching carefully to prevent it from boiling over, until the sauce thickens slightly.

Step 3

Step 4

Now it’s time to season the sauce. Add 1 Tbsp of ‘Yeondu’ (or soy sauce) and 1 tsp of salt, stirring well. Then, add the star ingredient: 2 Tbsp of perilla seed powder. Whisk until it’s smoothly incorporated into the sauce without any clumps. You should start to smell the wonderful nutty aroma.

Step 4

Step 5

Transfer the drained pasta directly into the pan with the sauce. Toss everything together gently to ensure the pasta is evenly coated with the creamy perilla sauce. Cook for another 1-2 minutes, allowing the pasta to absorb the flavors.

Step 5

Step 6

Serve the finished perilla cream pasta onto plates. Garnish generously with parsley flakes. Your delicious, creamy, and nutty perilla seed pasta is ready to be enjoyed!
