Ingredients- 5 Kirimochi (cut into 3 pieces each)
- 200g Heavy cream
- 200g Milk
- 1/2 Onion (sliced)
- 1/4 Broccoli (bite-sized florets)
- 6 strips Bacon (chopped)
- 50g Spam (diced)
- 4 cloves Garlic (minced)
- 3 slices Cheddar cheese
- 0.5 tsp Salt
- A pinch of Black pepper
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, prepare 5 pieces of kirimochi for a chewy texture. Cut them into 3 bite-sized pieces each. This will make them easier to eat and integrate into the sauce.
Step 2
Place the cut kirimochi on a baking sheet and bake in a preheated oven at 160°C (320°F) for about 10 minutes. They should be slightly golden brown on the outside and soft on the inside. This pre-baking enhances their texture when combined with the sauce.
Step 3
Heat a generous amount of cooking oil in a wide, deep pan over medium heat. Add 4 minced cloves of garlic and sauté until fragrant, being careful not to burn it. Infusing the oil with garlic is key for flavor.
Step 4
Once the garlic is fragrant, add the chopped bacon and diced spam. Sauté them together until the bacon is nicely browned and crispy. The rendered fat from the bacon and spam will add delicious flavor to the dish.
Step 5
When the bacon and spam are partially cooked, add the sliced onion and bite-sized broccoli florets. Sauté until the vegetables are slightly softened but still retain a bit of crispness. You want them to be tender-crisp.
Step 6
Now, let’s create the carbonara sauce base. Pour 200g of heavy cream and 200g of milk into the pan. Stir to combine the ingredients and bring the mixture to a gentle simmer over medium-low heat.
Step 7
As the sauce begins to bubble, add 3 slices of cheddar cheese and stir until it’s completely melted and the sauce is smooth. Season with 0.5 tsp of salt and a pinch of black pepper. Continue to simmer for about 10 more minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens to your desired consistency. Adjust the simmering time for a creamier or thicker sauce.
Step 8
Once the sauce is ready, you can either gently toss the pre-baked kirimochi into the sauce in the pan, or plate the kirimochi and generously ladle the creamy carbonara sauce over it. Your delicious Carbonara Kirimochi Tteokbokki is now complete!
Step 9
Enjoy your wonderfully chewy and creamy Carbonara Kirimochi Tteokbokki! It’s the perfect dish for a special occasion or when you need a delightful treat.
