Creamy Avocado Sweet Potato Puree
9-Month-Old Baby Food: Avocado Sweet Potato Puree
Beat the summer heat with a nourishing puree for your little one! This recipe for a creamy avocado and sweet potato puree is perfect for 9-month-old babies. It’s a gentle, nutrient-rich alternative to heavier dishes like chicken soup. The sweltering heat reminds me of last summer when I was heavily pregnant and eager to cook diverse, wholesome meals for my baby. Funny how desires change – now, I find myself looking forward to the day my baby can eat solid food alongside us! Even though it’s the start of summer (Chobok), for babies under one, we’ll opt for the natural sweetness of avocado and soft sweet potatoes to create a delightful puree. Let’s help your baby stay healthy and cool with this melt-in-your-mouth Avocado Sweet Potato Puree! (Yields: 1 small sweet potato, 1/2 avocado)
Ingredients- 1 small sweet potato
- 1/2 ripe avocado
- 2 Tbsp water (or 2 Tbsp formula)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
This recipe makes approximately 3-4 servings. You can serve the leftover sweet potato as is or use it in another dish. While leftovers can be frozen, it’s best to make this puree fresh whenever possible for optimal taste and texture. (If you have extra puree, you can portion it and freeze it for later use after thawing.)
Step 2
Wash and peel the sweet potato, then cut it into bite-sized pieces. Pit and peel half of the avocado. Steam the sweet potato pieces until they are very soft. (Steaming retains moisture better than microwaving, resulting in a smoother, creamier puree.)
Step 3
Combine the steamed sweet potato and the prepared avocado in a blender. If the mixture is too thick for the blender to process smoothly, add 2 tablespoons of water to adjust the consistency. (For babies over one year old, you can substitute milk for water. A splash of apple juice can also add a nice touch of flavor.)
