- Pinch of freshly ground black pepper (for a hint of spice)

- 1 slice of bread, toasted (perfect for dipping)
- 60g heavy cream (enhances the velvety texture)
- 6g granulated sugar (a touch of sweetness to balance)
- 6g salt (to taste)
- Pinch of freshly ground black pepper (for a hint of spice)
Garnish for a Finishing Touch- Fresh parsley leaves, chopped (for color and freshness)
- 1 slice of bread, toasted (perfect for dipping)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Begin by thoroughly washing the 250g of potatoes. Peel them and then cut them into approximately 2-3 cm chunks. Place the cut potatoes in a pot, cover with ample water, and bring to a boil over high heat. Once boiling, reduce the heat to medium and simmer for about 15-20 minutes, or until tender.
Step 2
To check if the potatoes are cooked, insert a fork or chopstick. If it goes in easily, they are ready. Drain the cooked potatoes completely using a colander. Set the drained potatoes aside in a bowl while they are still warm.
Step 3
Now, let’s sauté the onions. Place a medium-sized pan over low heat and melt the 10g of unsalted butter. You’ll notice a wonderful nutty aroma as the butter melts.
Step 4
Once the butter is melted, add all the thinly sliced 95g of onion to the pan. Be careful not to let the onions burn as they cook.
Step 5
Sauté the onions gently for about 5-7 minutes, until they become translucent and start to turn a light golden brown. This slow sautéing process deepens their natural sweetness and adds a wonderful depth of flavor to the soup.
Step 6
Transfer the warm, cooked potatoes and the sautéed onions into a blender or food processor. Handle them carefully as they will be hot.
Step 7
Carefully pour the 380g of milk into the blender. You can adjust the amount of milk slightly to achieve your desired soup consistency – more milk for a thinner soup, less for a thicker one.
Step 8
Secure the lid on the blender and process until all ingredients are completely smooth and pureed. Blend until you achieve a silky, creamy texture. You may need to stop and scrape down the sides a few times.
Step 9
Pour the smooth potato and onion mixture from the blender into a saucepan. Use a spatula to scrape out any remaining puree from the blender jar to ensure you don’t waste any of this delicious base.
Step 10
It’s time to season the soup! Add the 6g of granulated sugar and 6g of salt to the saucepan. Stir in 50g of the heavy cream first (from the total 60g). Mix well to combine. (You can reserve the remaining 10g of cream to adjust the final consistency if needed.)
Step 11
Finally, add a pinch of freshly ground black pepper for a subtle kick of flavor. Start with a small amount, as you can always add more to taste.
Step 12
Heat the soup over medium heat, stirring constantly with a spatula to prevent sticking to the bottom of the pot. Once it begins to gently simmer, reduce the heat to low and cook for another 2-3 minutes, stirring occasionally. The soup will thicken slightly. If it seems too thick, you can add a splash of the remaining cream or a little more milk to reach your preferred consistency.
Step 13
Carefully ladle the hot, creamy potato soup into serving bowls. The steam rising from the soup is a comforting sight on a cold day.
Step 14
Place a slice of toasted bread alongside the soup. The crisp bread is perfect for scooping up the delicious soup. For an extra touch, you can sprinkle some chopped fresh parsley on top.
Step 15
And there you have it – a wonderfully smooth and warming potato soup! Enjoy this comforting bowl that’s sure to bring warmth and delight on a chilly day.
