  • Category : Rice / Porridge / Rice cake
  • Ingredient Category : Processed foods
  • Occasion : Lunchbox
  • Cooking : Others
  • Servings : 4 servings
  • Cooking Time : Within 30 minutes
  • Difficulty : Anyone

Ingredients

  • 1 pack Seasoned Fried Tofu Pouches (for Inari Sushi)
  • 3 bowls of cooked rice (warm)
  • 8 imitation crab sticks
  • 5 Cheongyang chili peppers (optional, if you like spicy)
  • 3 Tbsp Mayonnaise
  • 2 Tbsp Honey Mustard
  • 1 Tbsp Toasted Sesame Seeds

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, gently shred the imitation crab sticks lengthwise. Shredding them into moderate strands rather than very finely will give you a better chew.

Step 1

Step 2

If using Cheongyang chili peppers, remove the stems and thoroughly scrape out the seeds. Then, finely mince them. Removing the seeds well will help reduce the spiciness.

Step 2

Step 3

In a large bowl, combine the shredded crab sticks, minced chili peppers, 3 tablespoons of mayonnaise, and 2 tablespoons of honey mustard. (Pro Tip: Adding about 1/2 teaspoon of wasabi here will add a zesty kick, further enhancing the crab stick flavor!)

Step 3

Step 4

Use a spoon or spatula to thoroughly mix all the ingredients in the bowl. It’s important to mix gently so that the crab sticks don’t clump together.

Step 4

Step 5

Lightly squeeze out the excess liquid from the seasoned fried tofu pouches by placing them on a sieve. If you drain them too much, they might become too salty since the pouches are already seasoned. Squeezing just a little will help balance the flavor.

Step 5

Step 6

In the warm rice, add the furikake seasoning and sushi vinegar mix that came with the seasoned tofu pouches. Mix them well. I added 1 tablespoon of toasted sesame seeds for an extra nutty flavor. Mix the rice by gently separating the grains with a spatula to prevent clumping.

Step 6

Step 7

Carefully open one seasoned tofu pouch and place about 2/3 of the seasoned rice inside. If you fill it too much, it might be difficult to shape later.

Step 7

Step 8

The amount of rice might seem like a lot! (This photo was taken when my son helped make them, and he has big hands, so he filled them generously!^^) Making these together with your children can be a fun activity.

Step 8

Step 9

Generously top the rice-filled tofu pouches with the prepared crab stick mixture. Shape the tofu to enclose the rice, and your delicious Crab Stick Inari Sushi is complete!
