Ingredients

  • 1 bottle dry White Wine
  • 1 Apple
  • 2 Oranges
  • 1 Lemon
  • 1 piece Ginger (thumb-sized)
  • 3-4 Cinnamon sticks
  • 3 Star Anise
  • 4 Cloves
  • 7-8 Tbsp Honey or Sugar (adjust to taste)

For Washing Fruit

  • 2 Tbsp Baking Soda
  • 3 Tbsp Vinegar

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, let’s thoroughly wash the fruits that will add wonderful flavor to our Vin Chaud. After wetting the fruits under running water, sprinkle them with baking soda and gently scrub the peels. Then, soak the fruits in a solution of water and vinegar (about 3 Tbsp vinegar) for 5 minutes to remove any pesticide residues. Finally, rinse them thoroughly under fresh running water and pat them dry.

Step 1

Step 2

Core the washed apple and slice it into rounds about 0.5 cm thick. Leaving the peel on will enhance the rich aroma.

Step 2

Step 3

Similarly, slice the oranges and lemons into rounds about 0.5 cm thick. If you prefer a less bitter taste, you can remove the seeds before slicing.

Step 3

Step 4

Take a wide, deep pot and arrange the sliced apples, oranges, and lemons attractively. Add the thinly sliced ginger for an extra layer of fragrance.

Step 4

Step 5

Add the cinnamon sticks, star anise, and cloves to create the deep, warm flavor characteristic of Vin Chaud. These spices will blend together to create a magnificent aroma.

Step 5

Step 6

Pour the entire bottle of dry white wine over the fruits and spices in the pot. If you find the wine aroma too strong, you can reduce the amount of wine and add water or apple juice.

Step 6

Step 7

Now it’s time to simmer the Vin Chaud. Bring the mixture to a boil over medium-high heat with the lid off. Once it starts boiling, immediately reduce the heat to low and let it gently simmer for 15 minutes, keeping the lid off. This process allows most of the alcohol to evaporate while infusing the wine with the flavors and aromas of the ingredients.

Step 7

Step 8

After simmering for 15 minutes, stir in 7-8 tablespoons of honey or sugar. Adjust the sweetness to your preference. Once the honey has dissolved and is well combined with the wine, your warm White Vin Chaud is ready! Serve it in beautiful glasses and enjoy. Let this fragrant and warm Vin Chaud warm your body and soul on a cold winter day.
