Ingredients- Cookdo Jjajang Japchae sauce 1 pack (serves 3-4)
- Canned cooked bamboo shoots 190g
- Bell peppers 2 (approx. 190g)
- Thinly sliced pork for stir-fry approx. 190g
- Cornstarch 1 Tbsp
- Cooking oil, as needed
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Cookdo Jjajang Japchae Sauce is a product by Ajinomoto Co., Inc. (formerly known as Miwon). It contains oyster sauce and scallion oil sauce, offering a convenient way to enjoy authentic Chinese flavors with rich umami and depth. One pack is generously sized for 3-4 servings and cooks in just 15 minutes, making it perfect for guests or special family meals. Plus, it’s not spicy, so even little ones can enjoy it!

Step 2
Let’s get cooking! First, we’ll prepare the bell peppers. Gently press and remove the stem from the bell pepper. Then, cut it in half lengthwise and remove the seeds. This method helps maintain the pepper’s shape.

Step 3
Slice the prepared bell peppers against the grain, horizontally. Place the sliced bell peppers and the canned cooked bamboo shoots on a plate. Canned bamboo shoots are readily available, but if you can’t find them, you can simply double the amount of bell peppers. Now, let’s move to the next step.

Step 4
Here’s a handy tip if you’re using whole pork slices instead of pre-cut stir-fry pork: when slicing the pork into strips, don’t cut all the way through to the end, leave about 0.5 cm of the base intact. Then, fan out the pork slices as shown in the picture. This allows you to julienne the pork effortlessly in one go without it shifting, resulting in beautifully uniform strips.

Step 5
Toss the thinly julienned pork with 1 tablespoon of cornstarch, ensuring it’s evenly coated. This light coating of cornstarch helps lock in the juices, allowing the sauce to penetrate the meat better, resulting in a tender and flavorful bite.

Step 6
Time to stir-fry the vegetables! Heat 1 tablespoon of cooking oil in a pan over medium-high heat. Add the bell peppers and cooked bamboo shoots and stir-fry quickly. Since these vegetables can be eaten raw, you don’t need to cook them for long. Turn off the heat once they’re slightly softened but still retain a slight crispness for the best texture. Stir-frying over high heat prevents the vegetables from releasing excess water.

Step 7
Transfer the stir-fried vegetables to a plate and spread them out to let them cool slightly. This allows the heat to dissipate evenly. Now, we’ll proceed to cook the cornstarch-coated pork.

Step 8
In the same pan, add another tablespoon of cooking oil. Cook the pork over low heat. Be cautious: cooking pork coated with cornstarch over high heat can cause it to stick to the pan. Ensure the pork is cooked through completely, as it’s pork.

Step 9
Once the pork is nicely browned, add the entire packet of Cookdo Jjajang Japchae sauce. Stir-fry over medium heat until the sauce coats the pork evenly.

Step 10
Finally, add the cooled stir-fried vegetables back into the pan. Give everything a quick toss to combine, and your delicious Jjajang Japchae is ready!

Step 11
Spread the finished Jjajang Japchae onto a plate to cool slightly before serving it in a beautiful dish. Allowing it to cool slightly before plating can enhance its visual appeal.

Step 12
Just looking at this picture makes your mouth water! It’s hard to believe that such a visually appealing and flavorful Chinese dish can be made so easily at home, all thanks to the Cookdo Jjajang Japchae sauce. This dish rivals the taste and presentation of Jjajang Japchae ordered from a Chinese restaurant, earning a definite thumbs-up!

Step 13
Serving this delicious Jjajang Japchae with steamed flower buns transforms it into an experience akin to dining at a high-end Chinese restaurant. For a touch of spice, drizzle a bit of chili oil towards the end of cooking. With simple ingredients and an easy preparation process, this dish is perfect for entertaining guests or as a delightful side for children’s meals. The deep flavor of oyster sauce combined with the refreshing, savory aroma of scallion oil creates a rich umami taste that isn’t overpowering, making it a hit even with young eaters. My son absolutely devoured his portion when I made this Jjajang Japchae with rice!
