Nutritious Vienna Sausage Fried Rice Recipe That Even Picky Eaters Will Love
Hello everyone! My child turned six this year and thankfully, isn’t a picky eater. On busy weekend mornings, fried rice is always my go-to meal! By finely dicing various vegetables and stir-frying them, I can create a delicious fried rice that even my child, who has a small appetite, will finish in one sitting. The combination of colorful vegetables and chewy sausages is sure to capture your child’s palate. Shall we get started?
Key Ingredients- 6-7 Vienna sausages
- 1/2 small onion
- 1/5 red bell pepper
- 1/5 yellow bell pepper
- 1/6 zucchini
- 1 bowl of rice (warm)
- Vegetable oil, about 2 drizzles (approx. 1-2 Tbsp)
- A pinch of toasted sesame seeds
- 3-4 pinches of salt (adjust to taste)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, let’s prepare the vegetables that will add flavor to the fried rice. Finely dice the onion into small pieces, about 2-3mm in size, which are easy for children to eat. If your child is hesitant about eating vegetables, dicing them finely is a great way to reduce their resistance. It’s a good idea to adjust the size of the vegetables according to your child’s age and preference.
Step 2
Next, dice the red and yellow bell peppers into similar small pieces, about 2-3mm, to match the onion. These colorful bell peppers will make the fried rice look even more appealing.
Step 3
Dice the zucchini into the same small size. If you don’t have zucchini, you can use regular zucchini (aehobak) as a substitute. Adding zucchini to fried rice brings a natural sweetness, making it taste even better. The sweetness from the vegetables will help stimulate your child’s appetite.
Step 4
Now, let’s prepare the Vienna sausages. Slice them in half lengthwise, then cut them into approximately 2mm thick pieces. Heat a pan with about two drizzles of vegetable oil. Add all the prepared vegetables and sausages to the pan and stir-fry. Continue to stir-fry until the vegetables are slightly translucent and the sausages are golden brown. Once the ingredients are somewhat cooked, add a large bowl of warm rice to the pan and stir-fry everything together. It’s important to break up the rice clumps with your spatula as you stir-fry, ensuring each grain is cooked through and separated. If the fried rice seems too dry, add about 1-2 tablespoons of water while stir-frying. This method helps reduce oil usage while keeping the rice moist. Finally, sprinkle in some toasted sesame seeds and season with salt to your liking. Your delicious fried rice is now ready!
Step 5
Serve the finished fried rice beautifully in a nice bowl. Accompany it with some crisp white kimchi and refreshing cherries for a weekend breakfast that is both nutritious and delicious! Enjoy a wonderful mealtime with your child.^^
