Main Ingredients

  • 1 bowl of warm cooked rice
  • A little chopped green onion
  • 2 Tbsp minced ham or sausage
  • 2 Tbsp minced yellow bell pepper
  • 2 Tbsp minced red bell pepper
  • 4 slices of cheese

Seasoning

  • A pinch of salt
  • A pinch of black pepper

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

Feel free to prepare the ingredients for the rice balls based on what you have in your refrigerator. I’ve prepared about 2 tablespoons each of chopped green onion, yellow bell pepper, red bell pepper, and ham (or sausage). It’s best to finely mince the vegetables and ham so they are easy for children to eat.

Step 1

Step 2

Heat 1 tablespoon of cooking oil in a pan over medium heat. Add all the prepared minced vegetables and ham (or sausage) and stir-fry until fragrant. Cooking the vegetables until slightly tender will enhance their flavor.

Step 2

Step 3

Add 1 bowl of warm cooked rice to the stir-fried ingredients and mix well with a spatula while continuing to cook. It’s important to gently break up the rice grains so they don’t clump together, ensuring they are evenly mixed with the other ingredients.

Step 3

Step 4

Now, season with a pinch of salt and black pepper to taste. It’s better to let the fried rice cool down slightly before shaping it into rice balls, rather than using it piping hot.

Step 4

Step 5

Prepare 2 slices of cheese. Keep the plastic wrap on the cheese and cut it into long strips with a knife. Thinly cutting the cheese will make it easier to wrap the rice balls.

Step 5

Step 6

Lay a sheet of plastic wrap on a large plate or cutting board. Arrange the cut cheese strips on the wrap, overlapping them slightly as shown in the picture. Overlapping the cheese pieces slightly helps them stick together better.

Step 6

Step 7

Take a portion of the slightly cooled fried rice and gently shape it into a round ball with your hands. The rice should still be warm to help the cheese adhere and mold well. Shape it carefully, ensuring it’s not too hot to handle.

Step 7

Step 8

Now, place the shaped fried rice ball onto the prepared cheese wrapper.

Step 8

Step 9

Use the plastic wrap to enclose the rice ball with the cheese, and shape it into a round ball. Carefully mold it so the cheese completely covers the rice. Continue making cheese rice balls in the same way until all the rice is used.

Step 9

Step 10

Arrange the finished cheesy rice balls neatly in a lunchbox. Fill the rest of the box with your child’s favorite fruits or other side dishes to complete a delicious cheesy rice ball lunch. It’s a simple yet special dish perfect for surprising your child.
