Surprisingly Easy and Delicious Cola Jjimdak!
A perfect balance of savory and sweet! This Jjimdak, enhanced with the magic of cola for umami and tenderness, is a crowd-pleaser for all ages. Try it for a special occasion or when you crave something extraordinary!
Main Ingredients- 1 whole chicken (prepared)
- 2 medium potatoes
- 1 large leek
- 1/4 carrot
- 1 medium onion
- Glass noodles (optional)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, thoroughly wash the chicken. Bring a generous amount of water to a boil in a pot, add the chicken, and blanch for about 5 minutes until the surface turns white. This step helps remove impurities and any gamey smell from the chicken. Rinse the blanched chicken under cold water and set aside.
Step 2
Now, let’s prepare the vegetables. Cut the potatoes and onion into bite-sized pieces, roughly 3-4 cm, similar in size to the chicken pieces. Cut the carrot slightly smaller than the potatoes. Slice the leek lengthwise to add flavor to the Jjimdak.
Step 3
It’s time to make the delicious sauce for the Jjimdak. Place the blanched chicken, chopped potatoes, onion, and carrot into a pot. Pour in 500ml of cola, 1/3 cup (approx. 60ml) of soy sauce, 1 tbsp of minced garlic, and 100ml of water. The cola will help tenderize the chicken and add a subtle sweetness.
Step 4
Bring the mixture to a boil over high heat. Once it’s bubbling vigorously, reduce the heat to low, cover the pot, and let it simmer gently. Cook for about 20-25 minutes, or until the potatoes are tender. When the potatoes are almost cooked, add the prepared leek and soaked glass noodles (if using), and continue to simmer for another 15 minutes. Ensure the glass noodles absorb plenty of the sauce.
Step 5
Finally, it’s time to adjust the seasoning. If the Jjimdak needs more salt, gradually add soup soy sauce until it reaches your desired taste. Be careful not to make it too salty. Once all the ingredients are well-cooked and seasoned, your delicious Cola Jjimdak is ready!
