[Baby Food] How to Make Clear Soybean Sprout Beef Radish Soup (Baby-Friendly Recipe)
Inspired by the refreshing and crisp soybean sprout beef radish soup I once tried at a highway rest stop, here’s a nutritious and mild soup recipe, specially prepared without spice for your baby. This recipe uses a tablespoon as a standard measure and makes about 3 servings for your baby. The harmony of tender beef, refreshing radish, and crisp soybean sprouts will stimulate your baby’s appetite. We’ve included detailed steps so even novice parents can easily follow along.
Main Ingredients- 50g ground beef (lean cut)
- 120g radish (approx. 1/4 cup)
- 1/4 small onion
- 1/4 green onion (white part mainly)
- 1 handful of soybean sprouts (approx. 30g, washed clean)
Seasoning and Broth- 1 Tbsp sesame oil
- 1 Tbsp soy sauce for soup (or low-sodium soy sauce for baby)
- A pinch of black pepper
- 1 tsp minced garlic
- 600ml water (approx. 3 cups)
- 1 Tbsp sesame oil
- 1 Tbsp soy sauce for soup (or low-sodium soy sauce for baby)
- A pinch of black pepper
- 1 tsp minced garlic
- 600ml water (approx. 3 cups)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, if there’s any blood remaining in the ground beef, gently press it with a paper towel to remove it thoroughly. Removing the blood prevents any unwanted gamey flavors and keeps the broth clean.
Step 2
Slice the radish into bite-sized pieces, about 1cm thick, or small cubes. Finely slice the onion. Chop the green onion. To ensure your baby can eat it safely without choking, finely chop the soybean sprouts into pieces smaller than 2cm!
Step 3
Heat 1 tablespoon of sesame oil in a pot over medium-low heat. Add the ground beef and stir with a spatula to break it apart. Sauté for about 2-3 minutes until the beef changes color all over. This step helps to bring out the beef’s flavor.
Step 4
Once the beef is somewhat cooked, add the sliced radish and sauté together for another minute. Lightly stir-frying the radish will release its natural sweetness into the broth, deepening its flavor.
Step 5
Now, pour 600ml (about 3 cups) of water into the pot with the sautéed ingredients and bring to a boil over high heat. Once boiling, skim off any impurities and reduce the heat to medium.
Step 6
As the soup simmers, add the chopped green onion, sliced onion, and 1 teaspoon of minced garlic. Adding garlic will make the soup taste even fresher.
Step 7
Season with 1 tablespoon of soy sauce for soup and a tiny pinch of black pepper. When cooking for a baby, adjust the amount of soy sauce or use a low-sodium soy sauce specifically for babies. Now, cover the pot and simmer over medium-low heat for about 10-15 minutes, or until the radish becomes transparent and tender. Soft radish is easier for babies to eat.
Step 8
Finally, add the washed soybean sprouts about 5 minutes before you plan to turn off the heat, and cook them together. Avoid boiling the soybean sprouts for too long, as they can become mushy. Adding them at the end preserves their crisp texture. Once the soybean sprouts are cooked, your delicious Soybean Sprout and Beef Radish Soup is ready!
