Ingredients- Olive oil or cooking oil, a little
- 3 Tbsp corn syrup or oligosaccharide
- 2 Tbsp gochujang (Korean chili paste)
- 2 Tbsp ketchup
- Tteokbokki tteok (rice cakes, your choice of chewy or regular) 200g
- Vienna sausages or other small sausages, 10
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, rinse the rice cakes lightly under cold water. For the sausages, briefly soak them in hot water for about 1 minute, then drain. This helps them get crispier when cooked.
Step 2
Heat a generous amount of olive oil or cooking oil in a frying pan. Add the rice cakes and sausages, then cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally. To ensure the rice cakes become soft and chewy, cover the pan for a short while. Keep an eye on them to prevent burning.
Step 3
While the rice cakes and sausages are cooking, let’s make the delicious sauce! In a bowl, combine 3 tablespoons of corn syrup (or oligosaccharide), 2 tablespoons of ketchup, and 1 tablespoon of gochujang. Mix well for a perfectly balanced sweet, sour, and spicy flavor!
Step 4
Remove the lid and continue to cook the rice cakes and sausages, flipping them to get golden brown and crispy. They should be ready in about 7-8 minutes.
Step 5
Using tongs, thread the cooked rice cakes and sausages onto skewers, alternating between them. Feel free to adjust the ratio of rice cakes to sausages based on your preference. If you’re feeling extra hungry, prepare more!
Step 6
Finally, brush the prepared sweet and spicy sauce evenly over the skewers. Your irresistible ‘So-tteok So-tteok’ will be ready to enjoy! It’s best served warm.
