TV Featured! ‘Youn’s Kitchen’ Style Injeolmi Waffles – Easy & Quick Homemade Injeolmi Toast Recipe
Looking for a fun weekend activity with your kids? Today, I prepared a special treat at my husband’s request. We’re making Injeolmi Toast, known for its delightful chewy texture and sweet flavor, but with a twist using a waffle maker! This recipe offers a crispy exterior and a wonderfully chewy interior, making it perfect for kids’ snacks or a beautiful brunch.
Ingredients- 5-6 Mugwort Injeolmi (rice cakes)
- 5-6 Songpyeon (half-moon shaped rice cakes)
- A little sesame oil
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, prepare your preferred type of rice cakes and a waffle maker. I’ve chosen mugwort Injeolmi for its subtle herbal notes and colorful Songpyeon for visual appeal. Using a variety of rice cakes can make your Injeolmi Toast even more interesting and enjoyable.
Step 2
Before you start grilling, lightly brush the surface of the rice cakes with sesame oil using a pastry brush. This prevents them from sticking to the waffle maker and adds a lovely subtle nutty flavor and a beautiful sheen.
Step 3
Now, carefully place the sesame oil-coated rice cakes in the center of the waffle maker. It’s important to arrange them in the middle because pressing down the lid might cause them to spread outwards and lose their shape.
Step 4
I cooked the rice cakes on an induction cooktop set to level 7 (medium-low heat). Cooking slowly over medium-low heat ensures a golden-brown exterior and a perfectly chewy interior. If the rice cakes puff up when you open the lid, it means the heat has penetrated evenly, and they are cooking beautifully.
Step 5
Adjust the cooking time according to your preference. If you prefer a crispier texture, you can cook them for a bit longer. If you enjoy a softer, chewier bite, a shorter cooking time is ideal. Find your perfect level of doneness!
Step 6
We’ll cook the colorful Songpyeon using the same method. Arrange six Songpyeon nicely in the center of the waffle maker, then close the lid and gently press down as they cook until golden brown.
Step 7
For Songpyeon with fillings, the filling might slightly ooze out as it’s pressed down. To prevent burning, it’s best to use medium-low heat rather than high heat. Keep a close eye on them to ensure they turn golden brown without scorching. Gentle cooking is the key!
Step 8
Serve your beautifully waffle-pressed Injeolmi Toast and Songpyeon with a drizzle of honey or syrup, and perhaps some fresh fruit on the side. This warm, chewy, and visually appealing treat makes for a wonderful snack or a delightful brunch experience!
