Main Ingredients- 150g Ssam Seaweed (ready-to-eat type)
- 10 sheets Pickled Radish Wrappers (Ssam Mu)
- 1 Red Chili
- 1/2 Onion
Seasoning Ingredients- 1 Tbsp Soy Sauce
- 2 Tbsp Vinegar
- 1 Tbsp Sugar
- Pinch of Sesame Seeds
- 1 Tbsp Soy Sauce
- 2 Tbsp Vinegar
- 1 Tbsp Sugar
- Pinch of Sesame Seeds
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, thoroughly rinse the ssam seaweed under running water to remove any salt. Then, soak it in fresh water for about 30 minutes until it softens. Soaking helps achieve a pleasant chewiness.
Step 2
Finely julienne the half onion, one red chili, and ten pickled radish wrappers. For the red chili, remove the seeds for a cleaner look and taste before julienning.
Step 3
Fill a pot with water and bring it to a rolling boil over high heat. This water will be used to blanch the seaweed.
Step 4
Once the water is boiling, add the soaked ssam seaweed and blanch for just 1 minute. Be careful not to overcook, as it can become too soft.
Step 5
Immediately drain the blanched seaweed and rinse it under cold running water to cool it down. Then, place it in a colander to drain thoroughly. Excess water can dilute the dressing and make the salad less flavorful.
Step 6
Spread the drained seaweed flat and cut it into several bite-sized pieces.
Step 7
Roll the seaweed pieces tightly and then julienne them into thin strips. This makes it easier to cut uniformly.
Step 8
In a large mixing bowl, combine the julienned seaweed, onion, and pickled radish wrappers.
Step 9
Add 1 tablespoon of soy sauce.
Step 10
Add 1 tablespoon of sugar for sweetness.
Step 11
Add 2 tablespoons of vinegar for a tangy kick. Gently toss and mix everything with your hands until the ingredients are well coated with the dressing. Avoid overmixing, which can break down the seaweed.
Step 12
Finally, add the julienned red chili and a pinch of sesame seeds, then toss lightly to combine. Your delicious seaweed salad is ready!
Step 13
The addition of pickled radish wrappers significantly enhances the seaweed’s flavor, adding a delightful sweet and sour profile. This non-spicy, clean, and refreshing seaweed salad is a perfect way to add a healthy and delicious touch to your meal!
